Caveat Caveat
WE KEEP THIS THREAD GOING JUST TO WARN PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS THAT IF ?WHEN THIS SCHOOL RE_EMERGES AS JBGL YOU WILL BE AWARE OF ITS MODUS OPERANDI AND AVOID IT THE THREAD ENTITLED INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL SCHOOL OF AMERICA IS ALSO MAINTAINED FOR THE SAME REASON When we review the first ten posts on this thread we find certain issues that cannot be denied 1- Since SPSOM opened in May 2006 until it was forced to close less than a year later it was surrounded by controversy over staffing and facilities, which caused the Cook Islands Government to ask for an investigation into the school. This included the government asking the board to re-submit its proposals with a more realistic view. 2- The NZ press reported that the school was set up between the Cook Islands government, in tandem with a convicted fraudster in a plan to issue worthless medical degrees to people who have been promised training in New Zealand hospitals. 3- The NZ press also reported that the convicted fraudster (Dr L---- S-----s) had previously failed to set up medical schools around the world, but had now set up two medical schools - one in Rarotonga and one in Mexico - and the Cook Islands government has offered to issue medical degrees to his students. 4- The NZ press also reported that the school began in a hostel... which has no laboratory, no library, none of the very complex and very expensive facilities that any good medical school would require. 5- The NZ press also reported that the school's founder, has had a shaky past. He has been convicted for fraud and disciplined by American authorities for prescribing the wrong medicine to a patient. Before the Cook Islands took him on as a partner in the scheme he was turned down by 11 Mexican medical schools. 6- On 22 January 2007 the Cooks Island press revealed that the chief academic officer of the school, Dr L--- D---, denied allegations levelled against the school which said that the school has not been honest by not allowing its students to transfer courses to another university if ever they want to quit the South Pacific School of Medicine. These allegations appeared in the cyber world after one of the four original students decided not to return to Rarotonga and requested a transfer of his units to the US. 7- Dr D---- says it is very unusual for any medical school to allow the transfer of students especially in the first two years of their study. The medical school caters only for the first 18 months of a postgraduate medical degree, and cited University of Texas Medical Health Centre in Houston and Mayo Medical School in the US, with its flyers, as examples of medical schools that do not allow or accept transfer students. 8- Allegations against the school also included the inconsistent teaching staff and curriculum being provided to students. 9- It was also reported that “the medical school is a dream of medical doctor L---- S---- to help those who cannot afford to pay exorbitant fees at medical schools in the United States.” This last point would later be debunked by insider information from the school’s ex hierarchy. 10- This report from the Cooks Island press only opened a can of worms because an ex teacher of the school was able to show that the school’s chief academic officer revealed his complete lack of knowledge of the subject, by indicating that only was transfer of students from offshore medical school to other offshore medical schools was quite the norm, but that there were at least 12 American schools that were known to facilitate the transfer of students from offshore schools. The chief academic officer was thus seen to be both a liar, and to be incognizant concerning the transfer of students from medical school to medical school. here is the list of schools.. Brown University, Chicago Medical College, Creighton, Dartmouth University, Georgetown University, George Washington University, MCP Hahnemann University, Mount Sinai Medical School, New York Medical College, Ponce University, Tulane University, Universidad Central del Caribe, University of East Carolina, University of Indiana, University of Medicine and Dentistry-Robert Wood Johnson, New Jersey (UMDNJ), University of Miami, University of Southern Illinois, Vermont University, and Wayne State University 11- Having debunked the myth that “it is very unusual for any medical school to allow the transfer of students especially in the first two years of their study,” and having demonstrated that students not only transfer frequently from offshore shore school to other offshore schools, and that they can indeed and in fact transfer to one of TWELVE schools, the author then showed conclusively why students from SPSOM were totally ineligible for such transfers. The author clearly demonstrated that the Cook island school was not following the USMLE step 1 objectives , and that Cook island curriculum was delivered in such a way that a poor attempt was made to modify paragraph one of the USMLE objectives, but had misinterpreted it very poorly. The result was that the stated Cook island curriculum required students to complete so much in 16 weeks that they actually accomplished nothing. Consequently, if they were unsatisfied with their education, the Cook island students cannot turn up at another offshore school and say “ Look, here are my ten credits for my GROSS ANATOMY COURSE, here are my 8 credits for my BIOCHEMISTRY and NUTRITION COURSE, here are my credits for My PHYSIOLOGY COURSE, here are the credits for my EMBRYOLOGY course etc The author pointed out that SPSOM’s curriculum clearly claimed that in the first 16 week semester that students will study Anatomy, Histology, Immunology, Cell biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Embryology, and Genetics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Behavioral Science, Biostatistics, Evidence based Medicine and Ethics. The author writes “Look at all the subjects that they (say that) they are doing in the first 16 weeks WITHOUT (obviously) COMPLETING ANYONE OF THEM, OR DOING ANYONE OF THEM PROPERLY. Anyone who has really gone to medical school knows that this goal is unattainable. I hope that someone can explain this to the journalist who wrote the bovine excrement presented in the post above. NO other offshore school that I know off ( and SPSOM is an offshore school) and NO medical school that I know off, or have heard off, subjects their students in the first semester to ALL of these subjects (had to put in that pun.......this is fun). NO other offshore school, and I would guess very FEW US schools interpret the USMLE objectives in this way. The average offshore student also wants the assurance that if he does not like his initial school for whatever trivial reason, he can transfer at the end of that semester to the school of his preference, bearing his transcript and credits with him. Such students can do this, because ALL the other schools interpret the WHOLE USMLE objectives, and offer the course by subjects, in the TRADITIONAL WAY, BEFORE OFFERING IN THE FINAL SEMESTER, INTEGRATION & REVIEW COURSES. The author then invited readers to review curricula for the first two 16 weeks semesters of a number of offshore Caribbean schools which reveal that even after two semesters that students would not have had the time to study all the subjects as listed in the SPSOM curriculum for their first 16 week semester. 12- In rebuttal of the Chief Academic Officer’s allegation that “the bottom line remains that the (two) professors at SPSOM are the best in their respective fields, the author pointed out that he knew of no other two teacher medical school where the teachers taught consistently out of their preferred subject area. Here him as he sarcastically destroys the Chief Academic Officer’s non argument. He writes… “One teacher at SPSOM is a Physiologist, but only gets the chance to teach a little Physiology here and there, oft and on, and when and then. This Physiology teacher has never been assigned to teach the FULL Physiology course as at REAL or NORMAL medical schools. Consequently, though he might be the very best in his field, his expertise is not being fully utilized. In other offshore medical schools, where the Administration knows what they are doing, this dear gentleman, would be teaching the Physiology Course three times a year, as the successive classes rotate through the program. In stead, this dear man has been asked to teach out of his area of expertisemost of the time. He has thereby been rendered ineffective most of the time.. Since the Physiologist is NOT a physician, it is easy to see that often, it would be unreasonable to ask him to bring lectures in say Haematology, or Gynaecology, or Immunology, or Oncology, or Pharmacology or Pathology……….as he has been dictated to do.The other permanent teacher in the Cooks is an Anatomist and a Physician. He also has only had the opportunity to teach a little Anatomy or Histology or Embryology here and there, oft and on, and when and then. He has never been assigned to teach the FULL Anatomy course as at REAL or NORMAL medical schools.Note therefore that the FULL or COMPLETE ANATOMY or PHYSIOLOGY COURSE was not completed in either of the first two semesters (8 months or so) during which this school has existed. Consequently, as I have pointed out, that after two semesters, the SPSOM students can not transfer to a better more organized school, where they might be confident that they are getting adequate exposure to the required and accepted Medical school curriculum. |

Happy Christmas To All At Imsa Spsom Jbgdl
IMSA SPSOM (now hoping for the REVOE in MEXICO was
Barren of ideas of how to start and run a medical school, unattractive in implementation a medical school, uncreative in concepts with respect to curriculum and presenting the USMLE objectives, and closer to death than to life. It always lingered at the brink until put out of its misery. Be sure to read the articles by Bruggadown that debunks the daffy ducks drivel and the letter from a source unknown??? that was written to the Prime Minister of the Cooks Government entitled WHY THE COOK’S GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT GIVE SPSOM A CHARTER What sweet prose. WE KEEP THIS THREAD GOING JUST TO WARN PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS THAT IF OR WHEN THIS SCHOOL RE-EMERGES AS JBGL YOU WILL BE AWARE OF ITS MODUS OPERANDI AND AVOID IT THE THREAD ENTITLED INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL SCHOOL OF AMERICA IS ALSO MAINTAINED FOR THE SAME REASONHAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AT IMSA SPSOM JBGDL CAVEAT EMPTOR TO ALL PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS OF JBGDL NO REVOE EVEN AFTER ALMOST SEVEN MONTHS?
