I'm the reporter who two years ago wrote a piece about Dr. Sands and his new medical school in the San Antonio Express-News, and I'm working on a sequel. Much of what has appeared in this thread is of great interest to me and I'd welcome contact from anyone with direct knowledge of events there in Nuevo Guerrero, particularly former students or teachers. Please contact me at 210-250-3251 if you wish to share information. For starters, I don't know if the school will be open this summer or why they changed their name.

TO ALL READERS, In another thread I wrote the following: Prospective students, El Chilito is an interesting web site available for anyone interested in traveling to Nueva Ciudad Guerrero where de Lara Med School is located. It is a news organization from the near by city of Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas. Last September they published the following note: www.elchilito.com.mx/.../public/nota.pl?data=163 In a few words: The situation is terrible. According to the article the military in charge of fighting the drug dealers are actually the worst enemy. They will use as excuse the fact that they are after the drugs and continually assault the innocent population. The last time I visited there (early February) the Zetas (main drug cartel) were back in command though. They are lawless and mean. BOTTOM LINE:don't go there. If you survive those military (most likely only paramilitary dressed as regulars), you'll have to deal with the Zetas (not related to me by the way). Then, just think, DE LARA Med School will be waiting. Scary thought ... PLEASE LISTEN TO ME... STAY AWAY FROM ALL THOSE DANGEROUS THUGS !!!
