If a school is not IMED listed, you should just forget about it immediately. Don't even post a question about it. Without IMED you cannot sit for the boards and will never get a license. It just kills me that people actually go to a school like this. A med school with 2 teachers?? Anyone with the intelligence to spell their name should have enough sense to avoid it. It really is almost laughable. It sounds like it would make a great reality TV show. G

I did not mean to imply it was "funny" in a comical sense, but funny in a strange sence. I don't find the place hillarious either. That implies comical also. This is a real rip off and there is nothing comical about it. Don't take pity on Larry Sands and his "investors". They have to be fully aware of what is going on.

Hi Weatherman,

Hi Weatherman,

Thanks for your valuable contribution to this debate.

Let me explain that I am not using the words "funny" and “hilarious” in a comical sense either; and that I fully understand that you used the word "funny" in a strange sense. I am just being sarcastic and playing with words..

But believe me, when you have been to excellent schools and schools of excellence you have to laugh at the nonsense that goes on at both IMSA & SPSOM. The alternative is to go crazy. I guess, in the islands that’s how we poor folk tend to keep our sanity.

Do you know that in the 5 months I taught in these “institutions” there was never once a staff meeting, and basically there was no real proper organization? Can you understand that any attempt to bring order to the situation was thwarted at every attempt by the Diotrophetic E mail Dean ? Everything was dictated to you by email or phone.

Can you believe that during the course of the 5 months I taught in these “institutions” that I met the Chief academic officer only five times?

Can you believe that during the course of the 5 months I taught in these “institutions” that I met Dr S---- once, and on a unrelated mater. Can you imagine that when certain students and their relatives advised Dr S---- to ask my opinion because they felt I had something to offer, that this request fell on death ears.

Can you imagine that prior to this, when I called him to alert him of the junk that was happening at his school, that he could not make time to give me a hearing.

Can you believe that the Chief academic officer claimed to be following a tried and true curriculum from another school, but yet both students and teachers never saw a copy of this curriculum. (Oh by the way, the Chief academic officer was also the Curriculum Committee.)

Have you ever heard the saying ''Monkey see, Monkey do! Well the Chief academic officer saw a program he liked, but his ignorance, arrogance and inexperience did not enable him to copy it properly.

To me it is hilarious when a grown man does not know how to copy properly. If he did, he would have realized that to copy the program he wanted to implement requires more staff , rather than a skeleton staff of two teachers, to teach everything.

Most of the time you could not answer students questions about what would happen next, because you did not know yourself.

Once when one of the students asked the Chief academic officer for a program schedule, he replied curtly “What difference would it make?”

It was indeed hilarious to watch him mess up everything. I quickly learned to just say nothing. It was indeed a case of “The higher the monkey climb the tree, the more you see he tail."

I would never off course say that the program “is a real rip off.” But I will be politically correct and say that it is “challenged by very very many deficiencies.” Dr S and his "investors" are now fully aware that they are running a circus side show, but prior to late December, they did not have a clue. But now they are indeed fully aware of what is going on. fully…….fully…….aware

Trust me, weatherman, I was not laughing then, but I am laughing now.

To be continued………..

They Are A Joke....

With respect to International Medical School Of America BIGDOGRN1 wrote in May last at http://www.valuemd.com/main-medical-marketplace/113407-international-medical-school-america.html
The New School International Medical School Of America Is Scheduled To Start July 31 2006. I Urge All Students Who Are Willing To Start Then To Apply Go On The Web Site Get The Info Check It Out It Is Real ! Of Course There Is A Risk Being The First Students Of A New School But The Risks Are Worth It In My Opinon. AMERICAN Curriculum ! AMERICAN Professors! And Clinical Training In AMERICA. What Have You Got To Lose. I Read All The Comments From The Other People But How Many Of You Have Contacted The School To Get The Real Information? I AM ONE OF THE FIRST NEW STUDENTS AND I FEEL THIS IS GOING TO BE GREAT

This post was made by one of the two nurses in the charter class of this “school.”
The sad thing is that they are basically nice folk, whose dream and faith in a dreamer has led them to this dismal dump.

By now they know that it is not worth it being the first students of a bad new school with poor leadership.

Would you like to now tell us if it has been as great as you thought? Would you like to truthfully tell us how great it has been.

Tell us about your AMERICAN Curriculum and your favorite AMERICAN Professors, also known as DR HERE’S THE DEAL. Tell us about how unethical he is to have one of your female classmates sleeping in his house, even though Dr EMAIL DEAN did not approve. Tell us about his lectures in Microbiology & Immunology.

In his second post, BIGDOGRN1 Wrote …………………

THE WEB SITE IS WWW.IMSAONLINE.US THE PRICE VERY EASY TO SWALLOW THE PROF'S ARE AMERICAN AND PAID VERY POORLY IN AMERICA BUT PAID BETTER AT IMSA NOT A ADMINISTRATOR JUST A PUMPED STUDENT CHECK IT OUT VERY EASY TO BE NEGATIVE WHEN YOU ARE SITTING AT HOME DOING NOTHING DON'T BE SCARED OF THE NEW DON'T BE AFRAID TO TAKE RISKS

One notes that BIGDOGRN1 has not written since.

Maybe he is studying hard.

Maybe he is struggling to study for himself all the stuff DR HERE’S THE DEAL did not present in class. Seems he is deflated about how he has a good chance of losing his money barring a miracle.

Maybe he has seen the light and found out that folk on valuemd have a little idea about what they are saying, and are not negative at all.

Maybe he has seen the light and found out that folk on valuemd are correct in advising newbies to the forum not to take risks, but instead avoid new untried bogus med schools.

Maybe he has seen the light and found out that folk on valuemd are correct in advising newbies to the forum about
1 Grace, St Lukes, St Chris, the other school that folded in 2004 in the UK
2. your wallet (lots of $$$$)
3. your mind (worrying about Lic and $$$$)
4. 4yrs of your life

Maybe he has seen the light and found out that folk on valuemd are correct when they say that “All these newer school promise the SUN AND THE MOON but then things are different once you are there. It becomes A SONG AND DANCE.”

Maybe he has seen the light and found out that folk on valuemd are correct when they say ATTENTION, everyone who is considering this school: Sketchy charter, affilations, location, financing, administrators

I personally can speak only about location, financing, and administrators; ALL NOT GOOD

In a response on this thread, the well informed Weatherman correctly opined that You will be in an area where illegal immigration and drug smuggling are the primary sources of revenue. The nearest town on the U.S. side is about 30 miles away (Rio Grande City) that barely meets the description of a town. The area around Nuevo Guerrero is rather stark desert. “

I have never been to a more desolate place in my life as this general area. Dominica is far superior, believe you me. I could not believe that I was in America.

Every day when we passed through the US check point, the guards would comment on our living in Rio Grande City. They all said they hated to work in the area because of illegal immigration and drug smuggling, and said they would never live in the area. These officers lived as far as McAllen at least, and swore they could never live in this area.

Certainly the area was very dusty. Not good for folk with post nasal drips, allergies, asthma etc.

With respect to the poster on that thread who wrote “a new school can only offer the freedom of the professors doing what they want in the program.” Well that’s a joke. At IMSA, everything was dictated. It was indeed laughable.

THEY ARE A JOKE....

Seems someone is at home at last!

If you go to Chronicle Careers, from The Chronicle of Higher Education http://chronicle.com/jobs/100/400/9999/ you will see that the Email Dean is finally trying to get his act together by running an ad for teachers.

Finally, after 10 months, the joker has began to listen. He is beginning to understand that you cannot run a medical school with two teachersteaching consistently out of their subject areas.

That I was telling you the truth all along is mirrored in the fact that the ad expresses a need for the following Multiple positions - adjunct faculty and curriculum consultants needed in Basic science disciplines including anatomy, behavioral science, biochemistry, cell biology, embryology, histology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and physiology.

Clinical science lecturers for organ system blocks: neuroscience, cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, endocrinology, reproductive, hematology, immunology, and musculoskeletal
.

It seems that at last, IMSA will attempt to operate with more than TWO teachers. It seems that finally someone following the critique on valuemd has told DR Email that you advertise on Chronicle to get staff.

Now note carefully that the ad states that the school is in Texas, but the school IMSA [also called Jose Bernardo Gutierrez de Lara (JBGL)] is located in Nuevo Ciudad Guerrero just across the Texas/Mexico border. Note also you have to write to the sister school admin@spsom.com

That the school is registered in Texas means that you are hired under Texas law. However, you will in effect be working in Mexico. You will be working OUTSIDE OF THE US. Hence you will not be operating under TEXAS or US LAW. If they terminate you illegally with out proper cause; for example for racial discrimination, or any other reason, you have no recourse.

From the time you tell the lawyers you were working outside of the USA, they tell you, that you have no recourse; no legal rights. So you will then have to seek legal representation in Mexico. Just note that carefully!

Note also they will lure you to Texas (my wife and I got a trip to Rarotonga) and then when you ask about your contract, they will tell you there is no contract to tender, and that you have an “at will contract.” In other words, they can dismiss you at will!...... and they will!

That someone has started to listen, is evident because it is clear that following our report of the comments of the patrol officers, at the Falcon Lake border , and the advice of the knowledgeable Weatherman, they are sending you to live in San Antonio and McAllen, instead of offering accommodation in Rio Grande or Zappatta. We used to be drained by the daily commute from Rio Grande! What a barren land!

Its strange that they didn’t have money at Christmas, that they were no new students in January, and that they have money to hire new staff now. Tells me that DR Email lied to me then. I wonder what lies is he telling now by this ad? Seems the owners are learning of all his ineptitudes.

I must also warn you about an issue not mentioned in the ad. You will have to fill out the form below every weekend to tell him what you do with every 24 hours of your day.

Believe it or not. When I first got the notice about it (see below) I fell off my chair with laughter.

Remember, I am just sharing my experiences with prospective teachers and students. That is what this forum is about.

If I had good experiencesthere , I would also have shared them. All I want to see is a good medical school.

Dear Faculty,
We are in the process of trying to improve our allocation of resources and would like to see where help may be needed, where tasks might be shifted, and whatever else might help the schools improve their productivity. One step to achieving this is an accurate accounting of how we each spend our time. All of the school employees including myself will be filling out the attached report each week and sending it to their respective supervisor.

IMSA faculty should send their reports to Dr C----- with a copy to me. SPSOM faculty should send their reports directly to me. Please make your start date Sunday November 26 for the purposes of your first report and then start a new report each Sunday. You should save the template as a blank and then save it separately for each week you do. I did my first report for last week and it did not take very long. Send an electronic copy and keep a signed one to be turned in later as the opportunity presents.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

L----- D------ MD

unfortunately

unfortunately the form did not copy well here, but it required that you accounted for ever hour of the day for every day of the week that is 24 x 7 -168 hrs

Never had to go through the experiences anywhere that I suffered there.
This form was one of the mildest. I was certainly hilarious.

do you know if it's gotten any better?

I was actually considering this school... and visited the campus a while back... and i'm not sure which teachers you are referring to... but met one that seemed pretty professional and knowledgable...?

i just didn't follow what the problem was... do you think anything has improved by now, number of teachers, etc? maybe those teachers are know longer there? I guess i just had kind of high hopes... maybe i shouldn't... ??

I talked to a buddy in brownsville last night and he said that to commute into mexico on a daily basis is bad news. Also, how far into mexico is this place?

just across border

it is not far into mexico. just across the border... from what i've read here, it sounds like the school is a joke unfortunately... i visited once just to check it out and had to allow for the fact,to be fair, i understand there will be bugs to work out - but if it's not IMED listed... just too many issues all the way around... too bad. it could have been a good thing if done right.
