i'd call state licensing boards directly; dont entrust this to nformal queries on the net. basically all you rotations should be ACGME affiliated too.

Since I can't link you to specific regulations of other states (don't have the time to search), I'll tell you from personal experience in my home state -- California requires formal agreements on core rotations. I know this because my brother is going through the process now and the CA board specifically asked for school affiliation agreements on one of his cores because the agreement was not on file with the board.

NY and NJ and Penn. will NOT license you if you did more than 12 weeks (core or elective) outside of hospitals that don't have FORMAL, written affiliations with your med school. Ross and SGU have these formal affiliations. Beware of any other school where you do your clinicals in the US. make sure they have formal affiliations or you will be SCREWED!!! come licensure time.

    How can I find out??

IS there a standard for for affiliatons, or is it sufficient to get information from the hospital itself. Should I obtain a paper from the school I am enrolled in about each hospital I attend? Is this something the school administration should have no doubts about?

Could anyone elaborate a bit more on this issue?

    A.H.,

I am not sure when and where you obtained this info about state licensure in NY, NJ, and PA, but I have info to offer from the contrary. I am a graduate from the UMS in Poznan, Poland (a.k.a. KMU). I know that some students from our University did more than 12 weeks of electives (at least 16) in the US at institutions without formal affiliations. Two people that I know personally have obtained residencies/licensure in these states; one for Neuro at Temple University in PA and the other for Internal Med at UMDNJ in NJ. I know that there are others who have obtained residencies in NJ & NY from our univerisity.

I'm not sure how this would be possible if what you posted was true? Maybe there was a policy change? Just thought I'd share my two cents.

That info is what my Ross clinical coordinator told me. I'm going to stick to Ross's reccomendations to be safe.
