    My top 10.

I would like to pick this thread back up before it start diverting towards canada residency (title clearly states top 10 caribbean med schools). So for those who don't know AUA now has CA approval, so does this mean there is a BIG4 now? I think so, especially since AUA says its possible that in the near future they can get federal funding. AUA still has some clerkship hiccups and waiting times but they have atleast started moving away from the 6-8 month waiting period and with CA sites opening up for this means even less waiting time. Plus AUA has started curriculum similar to SGU(2 semester style). I think the top 10 might look somehting like this1 - SGU2 - AUC3 - Ross/AUA (I don't think Ross is a clear 3rd because although they do have more clinical spots and federal funding living in Dominica is awful and living in Antigua is quite nice actually, furthermore Ross students are failed left and right and they have to repeat a whole semester if they fail one subject)4 - Ross/AUA5 - SABA6 - SMU7 - MUA8 - UMHS? (still a fairly new school, but seems to be following a good path) 9 - St. Eustatius/Windsor 10 - Windsor/ St. EDisclaimer - this opinion is from a 4th year student who attends AUA - take any bias as you will.P.S. 3 years ago I would have put AUA below SMU, big changes have occured since then.

Yes, iwannabmd, I am asking if I wish to return to Canada, what would the top 10 carib med schools be?

I am applying within the next week, have all my references in order, transcripts ready to be sent, just finalizing my personal statements and will be sending everything off. I have 8-9 schools that I will be applying too, just wondering what others think are viable options, so that I can compare to my present choices.

lol, there has been a Big 4 since about 2004...since Saba was cali approved....AUA would i guess make that a big 5?

but of course there is still a "bit" of a difference...neither Saba and AUA have federal loans, so there is still a separation....sorry.

No doubt you have the basic order correct EXCEPT; MUA would be above SMU simply by virtue of SMU being "disapproved" in Cali...both school have NY approval. PLUS, MUA recently got the "compatible rating" from DOE for fed funding like AUA and SABA and the have there Cali approval pending.

any of these schools will suit you equal...getting back into canada after being in the caribbean is much, much harder than a student getting back into the US...many of these schools promise it but few deliver

SMU recently got 100% passing rate for USMLE Step 1

Side note, Saba has one of the highest USMLE pass rates from all Carib schools and most students accepted have written MCAT.
And SMU (St Martinus University) does not require MCAT score but you have to be competitive. They just got approved by the medical ethics committee in Netherlands to perform a joint active research with a Belgian University.

In clinical rotations, all the students from different Carribean med schools including the top 4 do their rotations in the same hospitals so that equalizes everything. The deciding point for residency is the USMLE steps 1 and 2 scores and the student's sensibility and readiness to be a mature and able medical doctor.

From what I have seen, students from diff. schools don't all do their rotations at the same hospitals. It seems like some of the smaller schools, like SMU (Martinus) have no reliable and stable access to hospitals. Well none that they post on their website, anyway.
