If you start at a medical school without NY approval but the school obtains the approval while you are a student are you able to get a residency in NY?

Yea, I believe so. As long as you are still attending the school, while it gets approved, then you are good. I really suggest a prospective student to look into approved and established schools first, before looking into others. As we all know, state approvals are not that easy to get, it's a long process which could take years.
