MBBS?

I was under the impression that Indian medical degrees lead to the MBBS qualification, and not a US recognised one. You would then have to take further examinations to satisfy the criteria for practice in your chosen state. If I am wrong I appologise - having read about the minefield of charters on here, I guess there is a possiblity that it is not that clear cut.

Indian MBBS (along with others in the UK-style medical education granting MBChB or equivalent) are treated as "MD equivalent" in the US. They are treated as foreign medical grads like everyone else, and need to pass the same tests (USMLE's) like everyone else. Many states, including California, allow licensee's to use the title "M.D." for anyone who possesses a valid medical licensure from the allopathic medical board, regardless of what the actual academic degree is.
