admissions to schools in PR
yes, Puerto Rico is a common wealth of the United States. If you look at all the lists of Medical schools in the country and go under the category of states, you'll see that Puerto Rico is right there (after Pennsylvania), however when you look at the lists of school under aamc theres only one, which is Ponce school of medicine, (university of puerto rico). No you do not need higher than the average Mcat, there average is like the low 20's 3.00 GPA. The only draw back is that you MUST speak Fluent spanish, (they will test this during the interview which is in spanish. All the text books and material as well as exams are in english, however most of the professors lecture in spanish. By most I mean out of the 11 gross anatomy professors , there is only one who speaks in english. The rest speak in their native tounge, This is know for sure because I spoke with one of the head honchos of the school and got the whole scoop.

Fact checking
Check your facts again, there are 3 LCME approved schools in P.R. I am willing to bet my hoouse on this fact. ALL 3 CONSIDERED U.S. SCHOOLS.
Not that I am picking up on you, but I lived there and have close ties in the P.R. medical community. Cheers Max Quote:

PR is chevre
Puerto Rico is a beautiful place. I would rather live in PR
than many places in the US. It takes a while to be comfortable speaking spanish, so start early. Take a medical spanish class and become certified as a Spanish language interpreter. Even if you are a native speaker of spanish I recommend that you take a spanish medical terminology class so that you know the difference between terms such as vejiga biliar and vejiga orinal University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine San Juan, PR http://medweb.rcm.upr.edu/ LCME: next survey 2008-2009 telephone: (787) 758-2525 total enrollment 2005: 242f + 222m = 464 (AAMC) tuition 2005-6: 6,650/13,965 resident/non 9,933/17,248 w/ insurance & fees (for first year)(AAMC) matriculated 2005: 115 with 100% residents and 0% non residents (AAMC) Ponce School of Medicine Ponce, PR http://www.psm.edu/ LCME: next survey 2008-2009 telephone: (787) 840-2575 total enrollment 2005: 120f + 138m = 258 (AAMC) matriculants 2005: 66 with 57.6% residents and 42.4% non residents (AAMC) tuition 2005-6: 17,836/26,590 resident/non 21,162/29,916 w/ insurance & fees (AAMC) 2005 66 matriculated 2005 avg gpa 3.3 2005 avg MCAT composite 7.3 (V7,P7,B8,M) (US News) Universidad Central del Caribe Bayamon, PR http://www.uccaribe.edu/academics/medicine/ LCME: next survey 2011-2012 telephone: (787) 740-1611 total enrollment 2005: 140f + 123m = 263 (AAMC) matriculants 2005: 63 with 81% residents and 19% non residents (AAMC) tuition 2005-6: 20,000/27,000 resident/non 26,436/33,436 w/ insurance & fees (AAMC) Escuela de Medicina San Juan Bautista Caguas, PR http://www.sanjuanbautista.edu/ telephone: (787) 743 3038 Liason Committee on Medical Education http://www.lcme.org/directry.htm Association of American Medical Colleges http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/start.htm Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Categor...in_Puerto_Rico http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_rico Last edited by gluconeogenesis; 06-20-2006 at 07:23 PM. |

Lo unico malo es la actitud del gobierno y de "mantengo" de mucha gente.

Suggested route to visit schools in Puerto Rico
I am posting some information about the location of different medical
schools in Puerto Rico relative to the International airport that is located in San Juan, PR on the northeastern part of the island. Non stop flights that depart from Miami airport (MIA) to San Juan (SJU) have a travel time of about 2:30 hours. A line drawn from Miami, Florida to San Juan, PR would be slightly over 1000 miles to the southeast. I used http://maps.google.com and the city and zip code listed on the schools website. I rounded the mileage to the nearest mile. The start and end points roughly aproximate the location of the airport and the schools. The schools zip code that I used may be the PO box of the school and be some distance from the actual school. Suggested travel route A suggested path to travel while visiting the different schools, would be Airport (4 miles) -> UPR (8 miles) -> Bayamon (17 miles) -> Caguas (53 miles) -> Ponce (72 miles) -> Airport You would probably want to skip UPR if you are not a resident of PR. Distance of school from main airport Starting Point Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) San Juan, PR 00937 0250 to San Juan, PR 00936-5067 4 miles Bayamon, PR 00960-6032 10 miles Caguas, PR 00725 20 miles Ponce, PR 00716-2347 72 miles Some addresses Universidad Central del Caribe Ave. Laurel, Urb. Santa Juanita P.O. Box 60327 Bayamón, Puerto Rico 00960-6032 Ponce School of Medicine Physical Address: 388 Zona Ind Reparada 2 Ponce, PR 00716-2347 Last edited by gluconeogenesis; 06-14-2006 at 03:11 AM. |
