cali

schools that are approved include most native language programs that are geared toward education of doctors for thier own country. eg, the german schools are all approved, the french schools, etc. as for schools that specifically target americans, there are a few more. UAG is approved, and a few english language programs in hungary and the czech republic are approved. there may be others that i am not aware of, but i believe that the three you mentioned are the only carib schools that are approved. i think univ of the west indes is approved, but again, that seems to be a school that targets natives and provides docs for the carib, and only occasionally accepts an american and has pretty high requirements, i think.

as for schools that have applied, the best bet is to email pat park. i think saba is in process, and has been for a long time. other than that, i don't know.

and, ms park, if you read this, do you think that cali will ever post a list of approved schools? i think that would be even more valuable than the current disapproved list on the website...

Hello I am a new user and i have a few quetions.
Whcih med schools (international) accept students straight from high school?
and out of those, after graduation, which allow the prospective physicans to work back in Canada (without any extra training or exams)

? or in the US?

my 2 cents

most schools outside of the US accept students straight out of high school, but these schools are usually either almost closed to americans (eg. english schools) or taught in a language other than english (eg. german schools).

however, there are exceptions. there are irish and australian schools that are 6 year programs and take americans. i am not sure how often they do accept folks just out of high school anymore, though. there are programs in eastern europe that offer english language programs (poland, czech republic, hungary, slovakia, romania) that will take you out of high school. the university of malta has a 6 year english program. there are also pre-med programs at the carib and carib-style schools (i am not sure which ones, but i believe st georges, st chris, mua have them, and likely others do to) that will prob accept you straight out of high school.

if you speak another language, your options open up a bit, as you may be able to get into a native language program, and not be limited to the english program.

the real question, however, is the wisdom of attending an offshore med school directly from high school. we have several folks doing that here, and in most cases they don't do very well. there are a few glaring exceptions, excellent students that came from high school, but they are clearly the exception, not the rule.

also, i question the benefit of going to an offshore school straight from high school. you take yourself out of the running for a US education without even trying it, and that is a questionable decision. if you want to practice in the states, your first goal should be to attemp to get into a US med school. you may want to save time, or whatever, but, believe me, there is no hurry. you likely loose a lot more than you gain by going directly into an international school...

anyhow, best of luck with your decision.

What's the hurry? Do it the old fashion way, go to college, do well, apply to US medical schools. Many states have "undergraduate" requirements for medical school, requiring specific amount of college credits in addition to medical school. It's not a wise idea to "go abroad" right out of high school in hoping to finish medical school in a shorter amount of time if you want to eventually come back to the US to practice. Plus, look into combined college/medical school programs in the US.

ps sorry, just realized you are asking about Canada -- don't know anything about Canada except that many have said that Canadians are very anti-IMG and IMG's have to jump through more hoops.

UAG

UAG medical school is approved in California. So basically SGU, Ross, AUC, and UAG docs can practice in California.

Can someone confirm this:

Pat Park is being quoted from a taped conversation as saying that neither Ross nor SGU grads licensure applications (perm) will be accepted. IOW, she is saying she will make sure she rejects your application for license.

Just curious if anyone has heard about problems with either of those schools and what legal action will be required to force it thru.

Wow, let the rumors keep flying...

Didn't you also hear that St. Chris will be a California medical school too?

re

as far as i know, Pat Park doesn't accept or reject licensure applications. she works ensuring that foreign schools wishing to have grads practice in california go through the approval process and meet the requirements.

anyhow, there are lots of AUC, Ross, and SGU grads working in practice and residency, as well as lots in clinical rotations. these are all things that cannot be done without Ca. approval, so it looks like these schools are ok, have been ok, and will be ok.

nice try at a rumor start, though.
