Why it hasn't happened

Why has there been no push for uniform standards? You have to go no further than this board and the old Network 54. What do people do on here? Criticize and attack each other's schools. Way beyond any rational sense. God one idiot with a vendetta against Saba called the Florida board and made all kinds of trouble about students doing rotations there before they were fully approved.

Compare us to the DO's. How often do you hear about DO's knocking each other's schools? While I'm not foolish enough to think that all the anti DO prejudice has vanished, look what they have accomplished. Why don't we take a lesson from them and organize a national organization for US FMG's. Maybe then we could make some changes.

Great post. Whether any organization is established or not it is so counterproductive to bash other schools. Anyone who would call boards trying to make trouble for schools, and write boards criticizing FM schools is just a trouble maker IMHO.

We could

I think a national union of FMGs is a possiblility. Such a large percentage of docs are FMGs, that you would have a lot of people. You would just have to exclude current med students, because they are still hung up on "which school is better", and really don't understand the big picture (sarcasm...for the slow among you). It's just simply a matter fo finding someone motivated enough to do it. How about you etomidate?

BTW, I love etomidate (the drug) the best thing for emergent intubations. G

George I still have another 18 months of residency. But when I finally get a real job, if I have the time, I'd love to put to togehter a group of us and see what we could come up with.

[quote="Beaker"]it's not in our favor to do this coz fmgs want to be treated as equally as possible. not that long ago, fmgs were required to take a separate test (the FLEX) which was determined to be much more difficult than the USMLE. now we take the same exam.

Can you please point me to some reference to this about FLEX being more difficult than USMLE

Thanx

Miklos

And where are the California requirements listed, meaning

sqaure meters of facility required
Days per week of operation
hours per day
etc etc

If they do not concisely and clearly list requirements they could decline approval in a number of very slippery slimy ways.

In the 80's people were denied licensure because their school didn't have enough microscopes yet were unable to state how many were required.

Disapprove Northwestern Univ Medical School

http://www.lasikinfocenter.net/Litig...%20Kawesch.htm

Here we a prime example of one of the many "golden boys" with a US degree and maybe even honors as he did get an optho residency, then went on to commit apparent negligence, incompetence, felony, tax fraud. Lets see, he mamed peopes eyes, operated on poor candidates for greed.

Hmmm, I detect some quality flaws in his medical school training. I think California shold add Northwestern to their disapproved schools list.

What do you think?

ˇJesús Cristo! They are letting this guy continue to practice?? What could they possibly be thinking???

You would think the Medical Board of California would be much more worried about people like this practicing medicine in their state than IMG's...

This proves once again that the world makes absolutely no sense...

No doubt about it. The regulation is written in such a way says something like the school must have sufficient resources...See the proposed regulation at http://www.medbd.ca.gov/IntlSchool_Language.pdf

(I saw the actual application, so I know what is on it. I don't know of a public place like the web where you can get the text.)

Once the California application is completed by the school, the Med Board hires an expert on international medical education who reviews the application and makes a determination whether a site visit is necessary or not. Then a recommendation is generated and the Med Board votes on it.

The number of English language programs approved outside English speaking countries is quite slim...
