Do u need talent for natural science

Hi,

I am not studying medicine yet my self. I am considering studying somewhere in Europe.

It is obvious that completing medical school requires some knowledge of natural science. But how good do you need to be in the natural sciences in order to suceed in medical school? Of course that is difficult to answer, but if you skip the, well that depends on how much time you study and so on, can anything then be said about it in general.

Is it enough to have "an average talent" for the natural sciences and still suceed? Are you guys and girls studying all like very interested in these subjects? I would like the opionion of eu medical students all ready studying. Thanks,

Borg

Hi B, well that really depends.

I, myself love chemistry, because i am good at it, and dislike biology. If you are prepared to try hard, and work harder, then you will suceed.

A little bit of knowledge goes a long way with a lot of willpower!

Eventually everything goes back to the Natural Sciences and is somehow connected to physics, biology, and especially chemistry. So a good foundation is essential for success. If you don't like it you just have to study your butt off. ie I can't stand biochem, yet love microbiology. So studying micro is a breeze, but I really have to work on biochem...I always feel myself nodding off and have to have that extra cup of coffee.

Good Luck!

In my opinion, and this is based on observiing the other people in my class, you do not have to have "above average" talent in natural sciences to get an MD and pass USMLE. BUT...if you're below average in your natural science talents, then you can expect that to add significantly to the number of hours you're going to have to study extra. Some people only study a little, some people study all the damn time - but so far everyone in my class is passing. I think this is basically true for most other medical school classes in decent 4-year programs.

For more info on studying in general for med school, check out my thread here: http://www.valuemd.com/388146-post16.html
