Yes, of course, two years of USCE is of course preferable to zero (this is one of the reasons, I recommend the Big 3 over European schools). In my future field, psych, some programs won't extend an interview without a minimum of a year of USCE (it may be another way of saying FMGs need not apply here).

However, as I've said before, in a competitive field, the theoretical transfer student above, will need to competently answer the question: "Why did you transfer?"

i agree

yes i agree with you there..i mean if i didnt have to transfer i never would have..i think the education i had in hungary was superb..i dont party, drink..i think i worked pretty damn hard and i think i am pretty competent..the cards just were not in my favor that year so i was forced to transfer..but with 5th pathway out there now a days, and the hungarian program being a little more student friendly/student advocate than when i was there, no question in my mind, i would choose that education IF i did not have a college degree and was coming straight from high school..unfortunately..my year in hungary was the guinae pig year..my first year was the first year they eliminated medical biology and transformed it into cell, molecular and genetics..THEN..the following year biochem was just insane..like i said..not making excuses..but anat. with antal was nothign for me compared to biochem..that syllabus was just on another level..my advise from what i have seen so far in interviews..MAKE SURE you get recommendations specialized to the field you are planning on going into..like if you want to go into psych..and you have killer IM recommendations..for some reason it doesnt hold as much weight as you may think..anyways miklos..just to let you know..syracuse absolutely LOVES hungarian students into their psych program..if you wanted to apply there..just to throw that your way..good luck..

Good advice to anyone (I've already done my part.)

Thanks. One of the reasons for that may be that Thomas Szasz is professor emeritus of psychiatry there. (Probably one of the most controversial psychiatrists around.)
