WHAT IS THE MAXI STAFFORD AVAILABLE FOR YR1 AT A 6YR SCHOOL?

I was wondering if anybody knew if the full $18,500 maximum is available to students during the first year(s) of a 6 year MD program.
Charles told me that it may or may not be - not a very reassuring answer. Private/Signiture loans are pretty much out of the question, as my credit is tanked and I don't have access to a credit worthy co-signer.
    Thanks for the help.

gawtti recently posted that he needed to show his college diploma in order to be eligible for the full $18.5k at Debrecen and that those without a college diploma were only eligible for $8.5k until the third year, if my memory serves me right.

Need advice. 6yr med school now or 4 yr med school later?

Hmm... I think I may be out of luck. I'm finishing my Sophomore year this quarter, so I guess I could just finish up my B.S. and apply for a 4 yr md program in Europe in 2 years. I was just hoping to finish the rest of my education abroad. But the fact is that I need at least $14,000 a year in loans to realistically attend a European medical school. Basically meaning that I need to be a classified med or grad student.
As of right now, I've taken the following sciences : Anatomy, Physiology, Bio I, Chem I, Physics I and Pre-Calc II. My grades in these classes range from 2.8 - 4.0, however, my GEC's (Humanities, Diversity, etc) are VERY low (1.6 - 3.0). I know that European schools have MUCH looser acceptance guidelines than US colleges, but does anyone think I'd have even slightest chance at acceptance if I applied to a number of 4 yr programs with the afore mentioned grades?
Also, my e.c. activities are pretty solid and I've had 1 paper published, albeit in a small magazine.
    Any thoughts?
I would greatly appreciate any advice/info that anybody has to offer.

    re: $10,500 max

So I guess for me it's either "become eternally enslaved to the bad credit lenders" or live in the ghettos of Warsaw for 2 years
Seriously though, is this true for every six yr program? Does the DOE consider a student an undergrad for years 1 and 2 ($10,500 max) and graduate students for years 3-6 ($18,500 max)?

Best way to find out is simply to ask them. The number for the DOE foreign schools team is listed in the sticky at the top of the forum. Alternatively, you can google it.

Stafford loan approval has nothing to do with personal credit, unless you've defaulted on a previous government guaranteed loan (or exceeded the allowed limits).

On a related note, personal bankruptcy will not discharge your Stafford (or other government guaranteed loan) obligations.

    Clarification

Gawtti, you've posted $8500 as the ceiling in another thread and then $10,500 as the ceiling in this thread. I'm confused
Also, does anyone know if the annual loan amount is different for students straight out of highschool, as compared to a student that has 90 college credits (quarter not semester)?
