bad grades, any chance of Med school?

hey, ive been living in ireland for the past 7 years, i couldnt get into medicine because i was a "C" student, so i just took mechanical engineering, ive goten through the 1st year, but i really dont want to go back so i have 2 options

find a undergrad med school that doesnt look at your past grades but is accredited

or grind out the mech eng and try to get a 2.1, ace GAMSAT and apply for RCSI/ucc/ucd/ul

my dad wants me to do the 2nd of the 2, any advice?

i would say i can get a 2.1 no problemo, but i puke when i look at the GAMSAT exams.

location doesnt matter, and also, i already have 60 credits, should i complete one more semester and look at carabbien schools? i have heard there are some carrabien schools which are accredited and take any primate with 90 credits and money to throw away, is it true?

Hey Salman

at the end of the day it depends on a few things

1) do you have it in you to do medicine
2) how badly YOU want to do it
3) to what extent are u willing to go to fulfill this ambition
4) do you have MONEY
5) location ..location...location

Alot also depends on what grades and subjects u ACTUALLY did.
some schools have interviews and entry assessments.

few things u need to think about
are u wanting to study in europe or the carribean..
the degree is the same

but then u have to think about PLAB
and tuition fees
and -ur ability to return home without burning hole in ur pocket
also some schools in the carribean -are NOT recognised by the gmc

finally a word of warning -PRIVATE SCHOOLS OPERATING in the uk, most are NOT recognised by GMC, which means ur degree is useless if u want to work in the uk

GAMSAT - is more EVIL then it looks (questions on law/psychology/ethics as well as typical maths/phys/chem/bio)

2ndly ur engineering degree - might NOT GET YOU ONTO A 4YR PROGRAM
unless youve done chem/bio and a range of other live sciences courses
this applies to europe and carribean

with ur engineering - u MAY gain entry onto 6yr program

So is it what your dad wants or what YOU want? If you want to go into medicine b/c this is what your family wants you to do (like many people), then you are in it for the wrong reasons.
