    Jagiellonian vs Poznan?

    Advertisements

Hello everyone. I have been accepted to the 4 year MD programs in Jagiellonian and Poznan and trying to get some advice in helping me make a decision. Which one is the better school? I am intending on returning to the U.S. for residency. I like that Jagiellonian already has established partner schools in the U.S. (UCLA, USF e.t.c.) for electives which Poznan does not. However, I am most interested in the school with a proven track record in USMLE scores and residency matching. Also Poznan has NMBE exams for all their courses, which I think Jagiellonian does not. Help!!

Not Poznan. Avoid it if you can.

Affiliations with some US hospitals..which might come in handy setting up electives.
60-70% students match based on their match list. They're the most transparent about match statistics out of all polish schools. That alone is the biggest plus point, in my eyes anyway. It also helps that it's one of the most reputable institutions in Europe.

You can probably make Poznan work for you as well. It has its merits but i'm not a fan of how that institution does its business. Check my post history. I made a thread about it..you'll see how Poznan officials try to lure students in under false pretense..and how they disappear off the face of vmd when confronted with legitimate questions.

Absolutely Jagiellonian. Not only is it a great school, but an absolutely fantastic city. You'll definitely have to put in a lot of solid work here, but I think in the four year MD program, of 18? people that applied for US residencies last year, 16 or 17 matched. It is really what you put in though, but JU does definitely facilitate the process quite well. Also, for the 4 year program, NBME exams are now offered in the main subjects, I know for sure they are given in Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology, not sure about the others during year 1 but there probably are some. They also offer cumulative NBME's at the beginning of each summer and I believe they make it a requirement to pass this in order to take the USMLE after second year, to weed out some people, but I don't know the exact specifics of this.

Thank you so much! I think the class size is 40. Poznan has definitely a bigger class size. The admission process for Jag was a lot more selective if that can speak to it being more competitive.

Yes, definitely small class sizes; I think the 1st year of the four year program currently has 34-35 people this year. If you've got any more specific q's just shoot me a PM
