    Jagiellonian vs Poznan?

Hello everyone. I have been accepted to the 4 year MD programs in Jagiellonian and Poznan and trying to get some advice in helping me make a decision. Which one is the better school? I am intending on returning to the U.S. for residency. I like that Jagiellonian already has established partner schools in the U.S. (UCLA, USF e.t.c.) for electives which Poznan does not. However, I am most interested in the school with a proven track record in USMLE scores and residency matching. Also Poznan has NMBE exams for all their courses, which I think Jagiellonian does not. Help!!

I am getting a lot of strong support for Jag but no specific reasons about why Poznan would not be a good choice. May you please tell me the reasons against Poznan?

    Hi rookie_md,

From what I have gathered, Poznan is more in it for the money ($500 interview fee), higher costs and using American companies to advertise in the US and Canada. They are trying to recruit as many students as possible to make more money. To me this is a red flag. Jagiellonian has a very modest website and doesn't need to advertise because the school and past students speak for themselves. Just as reputable schools in the US/Canada don't need to spend tons of money on Ads because they know they will get applicants.

I will be attending Jag in the Fall so PM me if you plan on coming, it would be nice to talk and meet my new classmates!

They also have a $800 optional "interview prep session".
Poznan just gives a "for profit" vibe that Jag or Warsaw doesn't. I'd choose the latter two easily over the former.

Also, I've already mentioned this, Jag is by far the most transparent in terms of # of students matched: # of students enrolled ratio. AND they usually match at 60-70% when you compare their match statistics every year. That puts them on par with top Caribbean schools.

Check my post history and visit the "Poznan interview fee thread". You'll see how Poznan administration operates. It's not to say that it's a horrible institution and they don't graduate practicing docs. It's just that, if you have better options, why bother?

Thanks a_turtledoc. I am going to be picking Jag based on all I have heard. I agree Poznan looked good based on their website, and I liked the panel of professors that interviewed me. I paid $250 for the interview and 80pln for the application. I suppose Jag does have a $200 enrollment fee (but plus on it not being an application fee). I will PM you.

Thanks Torontomed. The Poznan website is very enticing, but Jag is slightly cheaper and seem more modest in their marketing efforts.

    Hey there rookie_MD.

I'm a current 2nd/going into 3rd year student in the 4 year program at Jag. I see you've already been convinced but if you need anymore reasons why to pick Jag over Poznan I have a million.

Overall we have a much better match rate is the main thing. I forgot who already mentioned it in this thread but last year for people applying to the states we had like a 90% match rate or something like that. And not just PCP specialties either.

Also Poznan just sucks to live in. You'll be bored out of your mind for four years there. Krakow always has something going on.

So yeah any questions at all just let me know.

Hey glad i found this thread
The Lodz website and policies are strongly "for profit" and have been for a long while!

Avoid Poznan. First, you should check what the stats are for obtaining residency and how the school works to make the life of students easier. PUMS has no loan programs, no affiliations with elective/residency programs in US or Canada. 90% of the curriculum is a self study program and life becomes hell during 3rd and 4th year due to unexpected and constant changes to regulations. Classes become divided into several groups where certain students are automatically forced to take a year off after graduation, despite successfully passing all classes. STEP applications are held hostage by regulations implemented during the end of 2nd year. This is no joke but a serious matter and I hope the program directors do something to change this. Unfortunately, the majority of the deans and professors are so busy working at the hospitals that they become completely detached from reality.
