BGU of the Negev VS Sackler
I am in the process of applying to BGU (it is one of the only two schools I have ever applied to) and I hadn't heard of Sackler until I viewed this forum. I would think doing your 4th year electives at top notch hospitals would get your foot in the door to some pretty great residency programs. I applied really late (my application is complete as of this week) due to some changes in circumstances, I hope I have a chance at getting in considering I have been on 3 medical missions to Peru and initiated a Tropical Disease course for students to be taught in Peru (check it out at http://clubs.weber.edu/tropicalpatho/), 3.67 GPA, 27mcat, research grant, and a lot of volunteer service. From what I have heard BGU is an excellent school for my life goals. I am extremely interested in Global Health in fact I am half tempted to not even apply to any US schools because I have a contact in Peru that said he could guarantee me a seat in the top school in Lima. I could easlily see myself living in the Amazon Basin for the rest of my life like Linnea Smith. I could honestly care less about money; I have had a pretty cush life and I would like to give back to those who haven't had it as easy as my honkey @

Well, BGU students can do rotations at Columbia, which is not a bad hospital... so whats the problem?

BGU VS Sackler
No problem here, I am just wondering which school would provide me with the best experience as well as provide me with opportunities to sell myself into good residency programs in General surgery or internal medicine.

BGU-CU
BGU-CU is your school, man. BGU-CU gets you your MD while focusing on international health which seems to be exactly what you're looking for. Sackler is a typical American-like medical school and does not have a focus on international health. Everyone I've spoken to says to go to BGU over Sackler because Ben Gurion University is probably the best university in Israel at this time. (FYI, if you've been following the news in Israel, Tel Aviv Univ. is getting massive budget cuts to a bunch of departments. Meanwhile, BGU just got a huge grant and is expanding like crazy.) Good luck!

BGU VS Sackler
Hey thanks for the info. I am just waiting to hear back from BGU. My application is complete as of today. They said they accept people as late as June for their July class, so I think I should at least have a shot at getting accepted. Who knows, I may just have to cut my 3 month hiatus to Peru a little short if I do get accepted for this falls class. Thanks again,
Nick
