By the way, I love your "quotes"... I don't claim that one school is better than the other. Both teach you medicine. But Sackler has established name recognition when it comes to residency placement. Technion is known for its brilliant academic teachers. Which one do you want when you apply for residencies? Sackler is very well-known in the New York area and LA. Most med schools in the US have hard times placing their students into those competitive markets. In regards to other areas last year, here's a few of the states/hospitals people placed: South Florida, Emory, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tulane, Johns Hopkins, Chicago, etc.. Technion vs. Sackler
Quote:
Just because one school rejects a student and another doesn't, doesn't reflect on which school is better. Different schools look for different types of students. Also, check your facts... No student in the TEAMS program was accepted without an MCAT score. It is a required part of the application. Due to the restructuring of Technion's medical school (leaving from a 5 yr (1 in america) to a 4 yr (in israel)) the application pool was reopened later and people who might not have been able to apply for the 2010 class were given an opportunity to apply later. There were one or two people whose acceptance was CONTINGENT on a certain score on each section of the MCATs, but this was extenuating circumstances for people that took late MCATs (scores not yet reported during their interview). I highly doubt that this will occur again unless their are other "extenuating circumstances". Also as far as people trying to transfer, I know most of the people in the class, and have had many conversations with the ones thinking of transferring. Their problem was not with the academics, but moreso with logistical and administrative issues. I agree their have been some issues in this area but as a newly reorganized school that is not accepting 4X the amount of students it used to, I found it to be understandable. When the administration was made aware of some of these problems, they were very responsive and immediately began to take steps to improve them. I am very familiar with Both Sackler and the TEAMS program. I was accepted to both and in the end the TEAMS program seemed the better fit for me. It was in no way an easy choice, both schools have excellent reputations and a strong curriculum (Both with amazing Board PASS rates and Residency placements) They are however, VERY different when looked at up close (Scheduling, Testing, Location, etc...). In my opinion either school is a great choice. |

Can you put up a link to the site of Technion?
This is Tel-Aviv New York State/American Program - The School Not to get hooked into this bizarre debate, but just for prospective applicants- always take the views listed here with a grain of salt!!! The fact that one guy got into both schools doesn;t make him an expert on both schools. Second- neither Sackler or TEAMS publish their statistics so every "value" you hear is based on rumor. Try and look at what both schools publish in terms of curriculum and if you have specific questions thats a good time to go to the forums!!! Don't base decision making on contests between people who want to show their school is the best!!!! Truth of the matter- it's not an objective debate. I still say take it to the rugby fields!!!!! |

http://teams.technion.ac.il Agreed on the grain of salt comment, Only reason I know so much about both programs is because I am in one, and my sister graduated from the other. If you want a good description of both programs, your best bet is to talk to at least 3 or 4 people from each school. You'll get mixed views and can form your own opinions. And as far as rugby goes, I've never played it, I say tackle football is the way to go. |

First of all, I didn't mean to say Sackler is not a good school. On the contrary, my interviewer from Sackler told me that the school gets better residencies in New York than the NY state schools. If anyone does well in any school he/she can excel anywhere. However, on a rank level the name "technion" is world renown. It's not even an argument (Technion – Israel Institute of Technology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). Plus the technion interviewer told me that technion's curriculum is very intense and it is more thorough than Sackler. Technion also has a very small class so the odds of getting a first choice residency are higher. In conclusion, Both are great schools. Obviously it's human nature to say the school you are going to is better. As long as you think so it's all that matters. But my choice between Technion and Sackler is Technion is the way to go for those who want to be challenged academically and a chance to go to top hospitals such as Johns Hopkins Mayo, Clinic, and UCLA.

Apparently, you will not have a chance at top hospitals such as John's Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, and UCLA if you go to Sackler. Oh wait, didn't Sackler students this previous class place at John's Hopkins and UCLA... Last edited by ijcMD : 06-15-2007 at 06:03 AM. |
