I am considering IUHS. I would like to connect with past / present students and get their input on your experience with the school. Please send me a Personal Message if you would like to share your experience with me.

511 points this forum doesn't even have any sticky notes. it seems that it is not a very popular school.
510 points I am a student at IUHS and I would be more than happy to answer your questions. When are you starting? The program is good and more importantly if you want to become an MD and this is the only route you can take, by all means this will get you there. There are some licensing limitations but there may way to work around them. The pre-clinical lectures are excellent - taught by Kaplan professors from major medical schools in the US (no foreign teachers)! The clinical portion is comparable to other Caribbean schools. Not great, but will get you through. Bottom line, there is nothing better than going to a US school. That being said, IUHS offers an opportunity for highly motivated mature students that want to become physicians. Hope that helps.
48 points Here you can not find those students easily.Let me tell you one thing that go to registrar office and find the list of your students from there. Its easiest and convenient option.

I have applied to IUHS School of Medicine. Don't know if I am accepted yet. Would love some inoformation as well. Hope to start in June of this year, 2013. Specifically, I would like to know how much traveling is involved in the first 2 years, clinical clerkship sites, extra expenses other than tuition so that I can plan ahead, plus anything else you may like to pass along, words of wisdom, etc. I really appreciate any information you can give. I am very excited about this opportunity to possibly attend Medical School.! Thank you, so much!
513 points Their Website says that 75% of people who attend this school pass the USMLE Step 1. Which is good, but you get what you put into it. No school is going to give you the pass. 1st 2 years you don't have to travel at all. The 3 and 4th year you will have to travel to various clinical sites depending on if you want to wait. Some people do Clinicals all in one spot (chicago, atlanta) but others like to get out and see what else is offerend.
Always save up. There is a ton of extra expenses you have to look out for. Apts, car, gas, food, books.
You may be stating the obvious but being popular doesn't mean squat on any level nor in any possible criteria.
510 points DocAngel, I am applying for June 2013 as well. PM me if you want more info or just to chat.![]()
513 points I can assure you that 75% pass rate for step 1 is false. There is a lot of IUHS students in Atlanta right now and Chicago. Most students haven't passed step 1 but they allow you to continue to clerkships. They make this number up because they want to look like a legit school and successful. The people running this school are constantly in a power struggle. If you want info go to their website iuhs.edu. look at the student highlights. They have one person. Never changes. No pictures of students on island, nothing. They will give you the "you get what you put in". I know a few IUHS students and they put in a lot of work, more than what I put in (i'm from a different school) and they failed their exams more than 6 times and now can't continue. IUHS students just aren't prepared enough from the basic sciences.
