We have not received the New York approval yet. Word is that the commitee will be returning in February for a second evaluation! It looks that we will most likely get it!
Good question!

so what exactly does a 2nd ny visit mean? Why are they returning in Feb for a 2nd visit? If so, when can NY approval be expected? March? April?

Also, what are the current plans for expanding clinical sites within the next 6 months?

Finally, can you please provide the most current/up to date data on Step 1?

They are returning in February after making some recommendations on their first visit down here. They would like to see some things changed/worked on before giving complete approval of the school. While I'm sure that this is not exactly what the school was hoping for in terms of approval, this is encouraging. The reason I say its encouraging is because if NY wanted to say no, they already would have.

The recommendations have already been put into place for the most part, and administration as well as the students are optimistic that in NY's second visit - we will get approval.

In terms of the time span, you are correct in assuming that March or April will be the rough date that we will find out if we have been accepted by NY or not.

I don't have current data on Step 1 scores right now, although I do know that a number of students have taken the exam in the past 4 to 5 months and have passed. If someone has those number, please post them.

In addition to what Iaustudent 006 has yielded to you: A second visit is for the committee to see if the addressed recommendations that the school received on the first visit have been made/put into place-such that IAU meets the same status as those of the schools already approved by New York. Therefore, this confirmatory visit is necessary for the approval process-ulitmately leading to the approximate approval process to be completed between March and April. Nevertheless, questions specific as such can be further explained by sending your questions to our Dallas Office, as they are the ones involved in the approval process and are more up-to-date on the status of this process.

As far as data on Step 1-I'm sure an IAU official could yield a better layout on this data. Nevertheless, we have had several students that have recently taken Step 1 in the past few months and several more that are on their way, with those having taken it, doing very well and already moving into their clinicals.

Step 1/2 Pass Rates

We're at an 82% step 1 pass rate with quite a few students awaiting their scores at the time of this writing. A few students have taken step 2, and only one has not been successful (75% step 2 pass rate).

We now have our first graduates who will go through the match in 2008.

Information on more numbers and the residencies landed by these grads will be posted by year's end.

nice scores, though, as im sure you know, without state approval, even if 100% of your students who start (not just the ones you "allow" to take the exam) pass the usmle, they still cannot get licensed.

i have decided to only attend a school that has california approval. as more and more states decide to spend money on more important things like prisons and sending national guards to foreign wars, they will tend towards letting california tell them what schools to allow students from.

this is not a good thing to have not gotten NY approval. granted, it was not a disapproval, i suppose, but its not positive. NY is supposed to be the easiest to get of the states that have formal approval processes for schools. i actually interviewed here and was told that the approval was all but final.

i realize that while being but a single student will have little fiscal impact on any one school, if more students understood the political climate as it is dynamically moving, then perhaps we could all as a group get the schools to start investing in things that would get the school some approvals instead of just filling the pockets of the super wealthy owners.

we, the students, are just scr'aping by, desperately trying to fulfill childhood or otherwise social-economic dreams. schools that year after year pocket the students money without improving the school and without seeking approvals they should have are in fact taking advantage of the students who are naive enough to ignore the school disclaimers of not being approved in key states.

just my 2 pennies... and recent inflation makes it worthless....
