    Update

A REAL UPDATE. PLEASE READ BEFORE IAU BLOCKS ME and deletes message.

    1. ECFMG Requirement for Schools beginning 2023

    ecfmg.org/news/2015/02/13/process-recognition-medical-school-accrediting-agencies-now-available/

    2. Caribbean Schools with accreditation status. IAU is NOT accredited and never has been accredited. Not sure why IAU is lying to everyone. Until it is CAAM-HP certified, it CANNOT be ECFMG approved. FYI, this is on the ECFMG link above.

    caam-hp.org/assessedprogrammes.html

    3. World Directory has the most current information. Until this information is changed that shows IAU will be certified, as of Jan 2018, itís not. That means, no one can get ECFMG certification at this point unless youíre done with Step 2. Click on sponsors. Not sure why the President of IAU is claiming itís a mistake when really the issue is that IAU is not CAAM-HP certified and by default no longer ECFMG certified. IAU was NEVER CAAM-HP certified.

Before you believe what the school has to say, always ask for an official ECFMG or CAAM-HP document that states what IAU claims.

This applies not only to IAU but to all other schools in St. Lucia and elsewhere. Wether this was a mistake or not is really irrelevant. The fact remains that 2023 is fast approaching and schools like IAU don't stand a chance to be granted accreditation by anyone. Even approval by the Ministry will be irrelevant past 2023 because St. Lucia's accreditation process needs to be evaluated and approved by ECFMG. So the process of buying time and making excuses by these schools will continue for the time being.

The remaining St. Lucia schools (except Spartan) are on their way out and have at most another 5 years to collect money. The same applies to everyone else in the Caribbean that is not or cannot get CAAM-HP accreditation. Most island have accreditation standard only on paper that is never really enforced. Well, that won't cut it anymore because ECFMG has been aware of this for some time. Hence the reason for this overhaul. My guess is CAAM-HP will end up being the sole accreditation agency for the whole Caribbean. The schools that don't meet their standard will be out and so will be their graduates.

Therefore my advice to people looking to start medical studies with the hope of returning to the US or Canada is be careful where you go. Things are about to change drastically and this is something these schools won't tell you. Therefore do your due diligence and become familiar with the rules of the game.

It has happened many times before with developing schools all over the Caribbean , and there is no assurance that your provisional approval will evolve into a full accreditation. I also would like to point out that even more established schools in the region, including the UWI still have accreditation with conditions. So I wouldn't count my eggs before they hatch. Nonetheless, I understand your reasons for trying.

Before you pack your bags and opting for transfer, a provisional approval is just that--Provisional. The school is still a long way from receiving a full accreditation and remains risky.

    quick facts:

-ST. Lucia government will/are implanting a law require schools to be CAAM-HP accredited to operate in the island. IAU is not accredited. thus they might have to shut down or relocated

-also ECFGM requires schools to be CAAM-HP accredited. if not were f... FML

When will there be an update? When is the next CAAM-HP site visit? Why don't you give us an actual timeline of when things will take place instead of vague emails? Don't you owe the loyal students facts for still being there even after ECFMG clearly has told them in APRIL that they are losing accreditation after Dec 2017?

The Saint Lucia Minister of Education, Dr Gale Rigobert, made a compelling public statement this week in support of immediate resolution of ECFMG alignment for IAUCOM
