Lots of ppl have been asking about safety on the Island.
This is one of the safest place in the whole of carribean and that I can assure you. You really have to look for trouble to be in trouble. We used to live on the St.Judes Highway and never had any trouble. we were out of our house on all weekends but didnt loose a single penny.
We had a maid and all of our house was open to her , our daughter used to be with her the whole day and not even once we felt unsafe.
The traffic police and the other police are friendly and helpful to say the least.
PPl say that that they lost there laptop and so on, look guys if you will leave your windows open and your laptop lying there, its an open invitation on a platter.
Places to avoid
Like every other place this place also have some places where there can be slight trouble, like some nightclubs on Laborie highway and in area arround Mulla Sheikh (the road that goes up the hill to light house) as some nice? ppl roam arround these areas. The trek that goes infront of the coconut bay resort to the beach beyond it should be avoided, as the beach on that side ( you can see the coconut mangroves from sandy beach looking towards east) is not safe i.e 2 of our faculties lost every thing while they were swimming!.
Driving is on left side. Driving in Vieux Fort is fun , only one traffic light and that too is shut half of the time. You normally travel to castries , the road is very good now, if driving on weekends, better watch out for other drivers rather than your own driving especially at night. But the best part is NO roadside mugging at all! You will be safe even if you are coming at 2 AM in the night.
While driving watch out for the turn in vieux fort in front of Pheonix club, another one at Monrepos and one before Dennery as maximum accidents occur at these places.
All the other places are extrmely safe so dont worry about anything.
Better watch out for ppl in the malls asking for a$, if you give them once they will always ask you, I always had that problem but does it make a difference giving a dollar or 2 while speandin 150 or 200 ec on grocery!thats what I think.
Moreover the PRO at IAU is one person who knows every body on the island, a bit moody but helpful on most of the occasions.
