Newer experiences from really NEW students please
The thread which preceeds this message about new experiences from a new student is NOT so new (posted Sept 21, 2007) and must be replaced by much newer experiences from the latest batch of IAU students (batch of May 2008).
I believe that IAU has changed for the better! |

That would be me !!! I have just been accepted for Spring 09. I want to say that so far my experience with IAU has been good. The IAU staff has been extremely helpful with everything so far. I look forward to going to the Island this January.

WOW, that is extremely surprising you have had good experiences with IAU. As a student here, I can say with confidence that 95% of the students strongly dislike the admin of this school. It is widely stated by almost every student that people such as the owner "Mike" N. and C.O.O. of this school are complete and absolute LIARS.

95% of the students that I spoke to or emailed before joining the school had good experiences to talk about. Only 5% exhibited a strong dislike or opposition for the admin of the school. So you need to get your facts straight buddy !

How do you define trustworthiness ? And how can i get in touch with some of the unsatisfied 3rd or 4th semester students. I spoke to a few in the SGA and they did not mention anything too negative as some of the posts here in here ???!!

So PSU07 if you had such an adverse opinion how come you did not advise the newcomers then ? Are you saying that you stayed with the school for a year and a half to develope a negative opinion of the school ?

I am a 4th semester
There are some really harsh things written here. But I am a 4th semester student at IAU, and 95% of the students do NOT have a STRONG dislike for the admin. Alot students that I have talked to don't. I don't have any hatred for the admin either. No matter what is said I must say IAU has some very good instructors. Most of them really care about the students and care whether you learn your material or not. They are not easy (and they shouldn't be) and expect you to work hard to succeed. They are always more than willing to help and are always happy when students ask questions. If we want extra class time or review time they are ALWAYS willing to come weekends and anytime.
Also from the information at the meeting today there is around an 85% Step 1 pass rate. This is what I got from the meeting. This is a new school so you can't expect everything to be perfect, but the admin are working hard to make the school better. If you have any questions just ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. |

The views of a few individuals is not necessarily the views of the entire school population. Yes, there has been some problems with teachers and such but then, what school does not have these problems?
For accepting IAU credits, it is known that a handful of students have successfully transferred to other schools after writing and passing USMLE step 1. For the few that were unable to transfer, maybe there were other reasons in which they were not accepted. In any Caribbean medical school, you will have your ups and downs. Instead of complaining on valueMD, try being part of a solution instead of being the problem. |
