Residency Placement

This is my first post to ValueMD, but I have been browsing quite a bit. I understand that IAU is in the process of NY accreditation. I'm not sure I even understand what accreditation even means-if a school is "accredited"-does this mean that you may apply to a residency in that state? If so, does IAU have accreditation in any other states? I have looked on the IAU website, but I just don't see any information about residency matches, only information about clinical rotations. Also, has IAU graduated any students yet? If so, is there information about their residency placements?

Only 2 states have a formal "accreditation process"
  1. NY accreditation allows schools to obtain more than 12 weeks of just clinical rotations (year 3 and 4 of school). It does not directly guarantee residency or licensure. Although, this could help in clinical/residency placement and licensure in New York and several other states. You do not NEED accreditation for residency or licensure in NY. NYS Medicine Application Forms
  2. California accreditation allows for clinicals, residency, and licensure in that state and almost everywhere else. Without it, you are not permitted to practice in that state, it will be considered a class B misdemeanor. Medical Board of California -
Only 4 states have lists of approved & disapproved schools:
  1. California - Medical Board of California -
  2. Indiana - Medical Licensing Board of Indiana
  3. Kansas - KSBHA -
Texas has an approved list for med schools. Physician Applicants
and DISAPPROVED list for schools in general : THECB > Academic Affairs and Research > Private Colleges and Institutes > Fraudulent Institutions

Florida has an approved list in a PDF file under "Our Institutions": Commission for Independent Education - Home

Clinicals, Residency, and Licensure varies slightly state to state, I have already posted a copied thread with every state and their links on IAU's forum.

The school started in 2004, therefore will not help eligible graduates that can be "matched" into programs until next year possibly. As stated in previous threads, we have a few students who will probably be ready to compete in next years match. We will post that information when available.
