5th semester and Clinicals are different

5th semester consisits of 7 weeks of ICM and the kaplan course.

After that, pass Step 1.

Then clinicals (semester 6+) at some of the same hospitals used by other carribean and american medical schools, sharing time slots with different medical students.

Please see previous thread posted about "New Student Committee" with contacts for students who are already in clinicals or 5th semester.

In the 5th Semester Intro to Clincal Med course, you'll get an idea of what clinicals are like by doing a short stint in each core rotation. You'll be interacting with many other Caribbean students from different schools. You might see other IAU students on M-3 or M-4 rotations. The other ICM students may, or may not, be on the same rotation as you, depending on what the admin. decides to do.

You get paid during your "residency" rotation, but you do not get pain during your clinical rotations. In fact, you'll be paying for your clinical rotations.

No, during the 3rd and 4th year of medical school, you pay the school. In most cases, the school also pays the hospital. Be careful of some schools, because they make you pay out of pocket twice, once for the school, and again to the hospital you work at.

At IAU, tuition per semester includes all of the clinical rotations at ACGME hospitals, which is often critical in many states to obtain licensure.

After clinical rotations, and step 2, you can compete for residency, which pays.

5th Semester

Under current 5th Semester guidelines - we have to complete 5th Semester ICM (Introduction to Clinical Medicine) in Chicago. While that may change in the future, those are the current places where we can take ICM.

The Kaplan course that is usually taken after ICM can be taken in any city that offers the right Kaplan (live-prep) course. The courses are set up through the school, but other than that - its up to you where/when you want to take the course.
