when can i travel on a H1B visa?

Hey guys, i was informed today by my residency coordinator that some of the other prospective PG1s like myself who will be migrating on an H1b visa were told by their embassies that they cannot enter the US until june 21, 10 days before they are due to start residency on july 1. Is this true for all H1b visas? this will mean that we will miss our first week of orientation.

well my visa interview is in 2 weeks, i guess i can wait till then. my flight is already booked anyways and the embassy does not take calls, strictly emails and sometimes they take a long while to respond. will bring my itinerary with me to the interview.
