Please add new clinical sites here

Someone prior mentioned the goal of adding new clinical sites by end of 07. Can someone please elaborate specifically what hospitals these are, location, specialty, etc....For example, what hospitals in NY once approval is gained? Maryland, DC, etc?

Current Clinical Info

Here is current information about clinicals. Updated information will be updated soon.

IAUCOM ~ Clinicals

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Study in the Clinical Science Division encompasses the fifth through tenth semesters. The clinical curriculum consists of 90 weeks of "clinical clerkships" during which students participate in patient care. While rotating through various medical specialties in cooperating teaching hospitals or other approved health care facilities, students are under the guidance of clinical faculty, and under the general supervision of International American University College of Medicine’s Associate Dean of Clinical Sciences. The eight-week “Advanced Introduction to Clinical Medicine” segment (taken during Semester 5, just before the Kaplan USMLE review) is designed to build on the student's training in medical history and physical diagnostic skills, as well as the student's approach to the patient. It is currently conducted at Jackson Park General Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. The location of the Kaplan review course is at the discretion of the student.Upon successful completion of Step 1 of the USMLE, students then participate in clerkships for 84 weeks; this includes 48 weeks of required core clerkships and 36 weeks of elective clerkships. Faculty members in the Clinical Science Division are staff physicians at affiliated hospitals and health care facilities.

Yeah, about that

I don't know, kinda funny how there is no way to do the "required" cores currently.

I heard all of the connections with Georgia and Ohio were lost together over similar reasons and Micheal Reese is not renewing their residency/clinical stuff.

Harbor Hospital is the only great hospital we have. JPH is ghetto and I don't know anyone who went to Baton Rouge...

Currently the school only has TWO greenbook rotations JPH for Family Practice and Harbor Hospital in Bmore for Internal Medicine. My advice to you is to not apply to this school until they set up more clinical rotations that are GREENBOOKED and also if you are a current student do what most of us will be doing and Transfer after taking Step 1...

clinicals

IAU currently does not have greenbook hospital rotations in order to offer pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, and psychiatry.

IAU does have family practice and internal medicine, as greenbook.

Many states require that those "core" rotations to be done at ACGME hospitals with the same specialty of a certain number of weeks (surgery done at an ACGME-surgery hospital )

Electives in many states do not have to be done at an ACGME (greenbook) hospital. Pennsylvania does, and so does Texas if the medical education is less than 130 weeks.

You can click on my signature for Sree's post with further explanation about ACGME clinicals.

I would accept somewhere else IAU has not been very forthcoming with keep students in the loop with regards to the NY visit. The only thing we know is that they are coming in May but we've been told by administration that for our upcoming Clinical Rotations NY (I will be doing rotations starting September) is not on the list of choices. Jackson Park and Harbor are two hospitals the school keeps pushing...

Ny

Even with approval from the medical board of NY, we still need contracts with hospitals to do rotations. These are two different processes.

For instance, we are technically allowed 12 weeks in NY but there are no options to do the 12 weeks.
