    medical studies in hungary

    Hi,

I'm a Nigerian high school graduate and i'm considering going to hungary for medical studies. I never knew that there were fake universities, especially medical colleges. Now that I do, i'm very concerned about falling into the hands of fraudsters or going to medical colleges that aren't recognized. The US was, or is, my first choice but it's not very easy getting there so i'm considering other places too. I'm thinking of hungary because they have the M.D. program like the american one.

I want to know how hungarian medical graduates are percieved around the world. are their certificates recognized in the US & UK?

Also, I would like to know the difference btw the M.D. and the M.B.B.S.

If I have the M.B.B.S, how do I upgrade to the M.D. level?

Hungarian medical studies are not like U.S. medical studies. Unlike the U.S., all that is required for entry is a high school diploma (the U.S. requires a bachelor's degree). Further, the length of the program is 6 years.

Degrees from the four Hungarian medical schools are recognized in the U.S. However, in order to practice medicine in the U.S. one needs to complete the USMLEs and gain a residency position.

For the UK, the degree is recognized. However, if one does not have European Union citizenship or residency rights, one will need to take the PLAB exam in order to gain registration.

This is only significant in Britain and Commonwealth countries that follow the British model. In Britain, the first university degree that is awarded for studying medicine is the MBBS. An M.D. is awarded after several years of research.

In countries (like Hungary) the MD (orvosdoktor) is the first university degree awarded for studying medicine. Advanced degrees are denoted by PhD and DSc.

Again in the U.S. and Canada, one needs a bachelor's degree in just about any subject as long as one meets certain prerequisites (and actually manages to gain admission) before starting to study medicine. The degree awarded is an MD.
