New Spouse of AUC student in May 2004..Help!
Hi. I am very interested in any information you could direct me to for spouse's of those attending AUMC. My husband and I will be moving to St. Maarten in May, and am a bit anxious about finding a job. I am currently a RN, but at this point will work anywhere that can help support us once we're there. Any advise or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I feel a little bit in the dark about to expect with regards to living once we are there!

Spouses club..
It's going great! We've had quite a few outings this semester and our group is about 33 members strong! We've done a hike, a whale watch trip, quite a few beach outings, and a shopping trip. We have a few fundraisers planned and most of all, eager spouses! Thanks for the email and hope you guys are doing well! Erica.

May 04 Spouse
Hi there!
I am tightlines wife and I am interested in the Ross spouses organization. I read that you started it in January, and I was wondering if you had good participation and how often meetings or outings are planned. It sounds like a great support system, I am looking forward to learning all about it. I am 27, currently employed at a stock brokerage firm and have a degree in Supply Chain Management. I am ready for a career change anyway so this was a great transition period for me while my hubby goes after his dream. I am going to miss my mom horriby, we are best friends and it was a very hard decision for me to commit to Dominica, but I love my hubby and I am making this sacrifice for our future together. All in all as I learn more and more about Dominica, it sounds very interesting and cultural. I am actually looking forward to it, it looks beautiful and will be a life changing experience. Like everyone, I am just a little nervous, especially leaving mom.... but all chicks need to learn to fly some time, right? How often do you all fly home? Between semesters? And how much do you typically spend in cell phone bills? Does anyone have a webcam set up? Any tips on that equipment? Thanks for any tips you can give! Nanouka |

Spouses
The spouses group did get started in January and we have great participation. We have about 30 members, and usually have about 10 people show up to the various outings. We have beach day once a week, a shopping trip to Roseau once a month, a meeting once a month, and major pre-exam outings 3 times a semester. We have a welcome breakfast at the beginning of the semester to great the incoming spouses/significant others and will have an end of the semester farewell to the departing spouses. There are also people that get together between the outings and do their own things. It's a great outlet to meet as many other spouses as you can and to have a support group to help you get through the slow days!!!
You will do great in your move, just remember to keep busy. Even though I have lived away from home for many years, it was harder this time because of the significant change in lifestyle. As for the webcam, I don't know anyone that uses it so I can't give you an advise on that. A lot of people use internet telephony because it is much cheaper than both the land line and the cell phone. I use my cell phone for local calls only. They have prepaid phone cards here that you buy for your cell phone, no service plans. Hope this info helps, you can email me with more questions and we look forward to meeting you next semester!
