I was told by one of the admins a while back that the school acually participates in it but the grade does not count towards your final grade. I couldn't find any of these information on the schools website and hope someone could help clarify this info. Thanks in advance for your answers to my question.

If you have any questions, post it here and hopefully someone will come with the answers. Just one thing, Please when you are posting start by stating your status. For example, state if you are a prospect student, or maybe a student currently attending another school, or if you are a student at Statia, state which term (if you want to) so that people know where you are coming from.
I'm currently Third year student, doing all my rotations in Chicago, and transferred outta Saba on my fourth semester.
Hope it helps.
Here is our facebook page, I'm working on that one too.

I am thinking of transferring into clinicals. How would you say are clinicals at St. Eustatius?
Is the school at risk for shutting down still with the whole NVAO situation?

Thanks

Also, if you don't mind, are you happy with your decision to transfer?

One last question, is anyone doing an "MBA" to help fund their way through med school? If so, what program and how much do you get per term?
Thanks in advance.

Something I wrote awhile ago, and some ppl have asked me about it so I thought I'll put it in here.. Don't hold me responsible, its guideline more than anything, hope it helps.

Hey Guys, Well I promised that I d write you guys about my prep, but I was waiting for the results to get back, just in case it goes wrong! I read alot of other people's experiences and I believe that they should only be used as general guidance, as everyone is different and what I am strong at, some others might be weak at.
I m not going to post my mark on this thing, but although its not the 99 that I wanted its above 90 and exactly one standard deviation above national avg, so I think if u fallow these footsteps you ll be good to go.
For books, I would highly recommend Kaplan to start with, but what I also want to recomend is that at the end of each kaplan chapter for each subject, if u like writing, start making your own notes; I did it for all kaplan books and at the end I had around 50 pages for each book that I would review.
I watched each Kaplan for each subject twice, one writing my own notes, second time, adding anything that I might have missed. All kaplan books are good, except for Path. For path there is no way to go other than Goljan. what i would recommend is starting with audios, and then working your way to the book. I honestly think that I read the book more than 20 times cover to cover, and in my report it was one of my higher performances.
K so for anatomy, and histo, i would not waste too much time, I think one time and ONLY one time through anatomy is good enough and the rest is all in First aid, same with embryo. I honestly think anything outside these books is waste of time, as questions are either very easy or VERY difficult.
For neuro, I would say either do Kaplan Neuro, or High Yield neuro by Jim Fix. I did both and it was waste of time, as one is good enough. First aid is NOT enough for Neuro. Also Web Path has good slides that U can look at for free, make sure u try it. Also pay special attention to upper limb and lower limb nerves as they are very easy points. I think the combination of Kaplan / or HY neuro along with FA should take care for it.
For Behavior, kaplan is gold. however, do not waste your time with the entire book. I would recommend doing the stats epi part and then skipping to self defence chapter and then skippin to the ethics chapter. DO no waste ur time with growth/ alcohol/ blah blah .. on kaplan .. those are covered in other books. EVERY thing else that u need is covered in FA. For ethics, if u think ur not doing well, look for ******'s cases, they are all over interent and if u cant find them ask me and i ll send them to u
for biochem, Kaplan is more than enough. I would also recommend Cell & mol Bio book (look for the version from year 1999, the new one is not as good), its all over internet also, and I would highly recommend looking over the chapters for cell receptors and also cell cycle as they cover the molecular level of alot of things, specially for the Neoplasia chapter on path, they love to ask about receptros and second msgr's so make sure u go over it. All in all, Kaplan is MORE THAN ENOUGH.
Genetics, kaplan and first aid takes care of everything. no other book.
Micro and immuno: for micro, Honestly First aid covers everything. if u mix it with the questions from KAPLAN qbank and UW qbank , u have everything u need. The only thing that u might need to take a look at kaplan videos(not book) is the chapters on bacterial genetics and stuff like that, its at the end of the book and notes dont make sence but the videos are very good.
For immuno, Kaplan was good for me, and NOT all of it. stop once it gets to Immunization chapter. again combine that with the qbank and first aid and thats all u need .
for pharm, I would do nothing but what is covered in First aid, as there is no other drugs that they ask about. However, the first chapters in kaplan up untill renal part is VERY good. U should know that they usually like to ask about ANS, CNS, Cardio, Renal, Cancer, and some on resp.
The rest i would not worry too much about, Again FIrst aid covers all u need for this. Also the chapter on ANS, they love to ask about what happens to eye, to HR, to resistance if u mix one simple drug with another, and its all covered in the first chapters on Kaplan pharm, so pay specail attention to those.
Physio, I would do BRS physion and combine that with First aid. it was my strongest subject so i cant tell u much except that BRS has all u need.
For path, as i said i would do Goljan. If u wanna do good, i would say make sure no day ends before u have invested at least 3 hours on the book. in the begining, it goes very slow, but once u read it over and over, it becomes a fast read. towards the end i would do 150 pages a day (after 5 months) so again make sure u put enough time on this.

K, conclusion: one, have a realistic goal. I was shooting for 99, and i think my mark is the best that i could get. i believe i put enough work into it and although its not 99 that i wanted, im sure its good enough to get me to residency that I wanted. I m not going to bash people who get lower score, but i really dont undrestand what people expect to get into with marks less than 200. so just keep in mind that this is ur future that ur studying for.

they ask about CONCEPTS, not lilttle details, The exam is all about concepts, so make sure u get those. They are alot of them, but learning concepts is much easier than little things here and there, and honestly, once u learn them really well, some little details start to make sense also. So do no wast ur time with something that u ve never heard before during ur classes. chances are if its not coverd in class its not gonna be on step also. However, if u wanna do real good, by all means know everything!

2. i would highly suggest sticking to a routine. In the begining its hard, but once u do it over and over, it becomes a habbit. I would get up and do 2 hours of pharm every day, then from 8 till 5 Pm i would do one of the subjects except Path, and from 5 i would start doing path till 11.

3. I would recommend both Kaplan and UW qbanks. Concepts in UW are very well explained, but details are covered in Kaplan. Kaplan does a good job with Micro, Pharm, physio and anatomy.
for the rest use UW.

I would not start doing q's until i ve done at least two reads of the book. Now what i would recommend is that u take ur book to Kinko's or somewhere, and turn it into a binder and as u do q's, add concepts to ur first aid. I wrote it my notes on the pages and it became really confusing towards the end. so if u just make it into a binder and start writing ur own notes and adding them to first aid, towards the end u ll have one book that has everything u need.

Last thing, this exam is not something that u can know everything for. I tried and failed in that aspect. I would say, know ur concepts well, and know them enough that u feel comfortable. also what alot of people say and i also agree with is that the exam is about asking simple concepts in a way that u ve never seen before, so doing more q's never hurts as u learn how to answer different q's .

My UW avrage was 71%, kaplan 73% and i think they give u a good idea where u stand.
Also do Nbme's once every month just to see if ur improving or not, but trust me its not THAT exact. my mark is 8 points higher than Nbme's predicted.

Work hard, and dont forget to take little time off, as u will def burn out if u study for more than 2 months. Also remember, in the begining u should push urself a lil harder as towards the end u def burn out.

good luck and if u need anything dont hesitate to ask.

ok so this is me- this is what i would/should have done. i am taking kaplan now and really love it. i wish i would of rev videos before starting live lecture, but i am managing...
