before I started clinicals I thought it was pretty darn groovy that saba had clinical exams for each core rotation. I mean yah it sucks to study, but at least saba is looking out for my step 2 grade.

wrong! these CCE deals are a joke. the questions are stupid and most are cribbed from Exam Master. u could read the most relevant book out there and still do badly on these tests.

what gives saba? what gives?

I want Saba to give me what matters. NBME clinical exams. the real deal that would help me for step 2. I don't care if NBMES turn out to be harder; I think they will be better. I don't want to take a crappy test every rotation. it does me no good.

who agrees with me?

and yah I know NBMEs cost money and are pain to administer cos you can't have them at the HR Block like the CCEs but come one. I'll take some sacrifice for a better test.

From what I hear, students don't like spend all that much time in the hospital at Children's so if they don't see us there all the time will they sign the Cali Letter? i know I can't just get the Attending to sign it, the GME department or whatever has to sign it.

any of you students have problems getting the cali letter signed from the miami rotation or should I just go somewhere like Wycokff for Minne for my Peds instead?

Cases 1 and 2 lead to drama. Does anyone find it distracting? And how do you avoid it as to not effect your studies?
Places to avoid? Things not to do? Social gatherings not to attend? etc. etc.

I've been accepted to SABA's May 2010 semester.

I have also been accepted to Ross MERP program starting Nov 30 2009. That's like, right now.

First off, Nov 2009 is cutting it close. That's a lot of money, adjustments, and decision making quickly. Not to mention federal loans aren't given for MERP programs, in addition to Ross' high tuition costs at around 14,000 a semester.

Should I - for all intents and purposes, relax, and go straight into SABA for May 10' - or should I scramble into this MERP program, pay the money, take the chance and stress of passing this 'audition' - and then get into Ross, which also starts - like SABA, in May 2010.

As far as academics - as much as I've researched both schools are fully accredited in 50 states, high pass rates on USMLE, they both also seem to have similar match rates for residencies. etc. etc.

Tuition is lower at SABA but private loans have higher interest rates. Ross has more expensive tuition yet they offer federal loans.

Any advice?

PS" For those wondering I have a 3.1 overall, a 2.9 science and a 32R on my MCATs.

PPS: I already submitted my 750 deposit for SABA a week and a half earlier. Which, is a factor - I guess.

It is simply and utterly unfair that those students were allowed to hold on to their high scores and those students that did not cheat were poised to accept their low grades as there was no adjustment made to the exam because of artificially high average and the number of A students in one exam.

It is simply unacceptable to me and other parents who are monitoring the situation where are kids are sent to study and learn to become future doctors and really hoping that the school does something about this situation as problems like this are quite common in other universities as well but there are clear protocols as to what needs to be done and I'm positive that the school will secure its integrity.

We will have to wait and see what happens in CLINICAL MEDICINE and PATHOLOGY II courses.

Hi all,
I'm a newbie so here's a bit about me: I'm a Dental Hygienist in Toronto..for those who don't know, this is a Regulated Health Care Profession in Canada...I've been practicing since July 2009 & before this I did my BSc at UofT. I've decided to go into medicine for so many reasons, as I'm sure most of you are familiar with by now.

Anyway, I've decided that SABA is a great school & I've heard wonderful things and feel it might suit what I'm looking for.
In terms of admission requirements, I haven't taken the MCAT & I only did 1 semester of organic chemistry (this was my program reqt when I was at UofT).
My grades at UofT aren't that high (had lots of family situations), but things brightened up for me significantly when I did dental hygiene (I convocated with Honours & was on Dean's list for all 2 years).
My issue is that dental hygiene is at the college level here...I'm not sure if SABA would recognize those college grades. The college courses in Anatomy & Physiology, Histology, & Pharmacology are comparable to university level classes. I have volunteer experience, > 500 hrs of patient care experience & variety of work experience.
Their website says "Exceptions are made on an individual basis" re: admission reqts.

Any idea what my chances are of getting in given the aforementioned info?
Has anyone been in a similar situation with university grades not being so high?

I emailed SABA this morning but no response yet.

Also, is going for admission in May 2010 going to increase my chances of getting in vs. starting Sept 2010?

Thanks in advance, look forward for any input.

(Yes, I can ride an ATV rough terrain, and I can ride a horse places most people would be afraid to walk). I would like to get to the top of the island and relax for a few hours, but with limited time, I'm not sure how practical hiking to the top would be. If that isn't possible, could one at least see most of the island sights by ATV in a day?

So for all those obsessed med students you may find it comforting to know that residency programs do not look at your grades, your shelf scores, your deans letter, or your letter of reccomendations. how is this so? When I applyed for the match, I was getting interviews ( granted, it was family and IM) before any of that stuff had been submitted to ERAS. All they had was my step one and 2 score, not even the CS score. I can only speak for family and IM cause thats what Im applying to, so its safe to relax a little bit

I was thinking of transferring into the clinical rotations program.

A profile of me to give you an idea of what I'm dealing with:
US citizen, Finishing 2nd Yr Med School in April 10 (IMED listed, in India)

Doing well in school, however, it's a "5 1/2" year course here.
On top of that students spend an extra 1 year to clear Step 1 and 2.
Based on the timing of the normal residency match, you're looking at 7 years between start of med school and start of residency. With the transfer, I'm shrinking that by 1-2 years, and I'm getting US clinical exposure. In India, you have classes for 4.5 years along with clinicals for 3.5 years.

My option is to join SABA's 5th semester.. Transfer all of my pre-clinical subjects (although I've already been on rotations in India for a year now). And after (hopefully) clearing Step 1, I'd continue green-book hospitals.

Does this seem worth the effort? Do the US clinicial experience and the US physician recommendations justify transferring into the SABA Clinical Program?
