I have 7 W's.

I have reasonable excuses for most of them...

I had a W in my freshman year; I was ultra stupid.

W General Biology

I then had another W in a summer class; I continued to be as you can see, very stupid.

W in Pre-Calculus

Technically I only have 2 inexcusable W's

For the other W's I have have a reasonable explanation.

I lost a full year because in the first semester I had transportation problems at the end of it, and in the second semester I had surgery and my doctor said I had to drop out temporarily.

So, what do you guys think? Do I still have a chance of getting in?

Honestly, I've tried many times to change my major, but there is something that really pulls me towards medicine.I like it a lot. I tried engineering and hated it, I tried business and ended hating it too. I cannot visualize myself doing anything more than being a physician, but I always lack in motivation and fear that I will not get what I most want in life. I'm too insecure. I have many fears. I'm desperate to find a good advice on this matter.

Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone!

I guess it goes without saying that I'm one of the many here planning to pursue a career in Medicine. I'm currently a freshman in an American college with a Bio major, and although it still seems a long way off, I'm already worried about how I'd deal with medical school.

Would it be better if I stayed in the US for medical school, or go somewhere international (Europe, Asia...etc.)?

What I'm mainly concerned about is whether or not I'd be able to get a good enough education and a degree that can be internationally recognized.

I'm an Asian American with dual citizenship and have spent a good majority of my life in East Asia, so getting a college education in the States is already more or less a foreign experience for me. I'm adapting well so far, so I don't think I'd find much of a problem moving to another country for med school.

The reason why I'm a bit hesitant in going to med school in the States is because of its insane tuition and the amount of debt after graduation.

But as it is, if a US education is considerably better than other places in regards to what you get out of it compared to what you pay, I'd still be happy to stay in the US.

So, will anyone be able to give me some advice on where best to study?

Hello, All!

I am completing a MBBS in Pakistan and am wondering what is the process to begin practicing in USA afterward. I was born and raised in USA, and am USA citizen, though my parents are from Pakistan. The cost of completing an MD in USA is very expensive so we are venturing on taking the MBBS route in Pakistan.

I have searched online and the conclusion seems to be that once you complete your MBBS abroad, you can take the USMLE exam and be certified to practice - of course assuming you have completed Residency.

My question is, is this the process after an MBBS? Can I complete my residency in USA? Or do I have to do it in Pakistan? Once I've completed the residency, what exactly is the process to getting certified to practice in the US.

My intention is to work in the ER or a public health clinic. I don't intend on opening my own practice for some time. Basically, I am very confused, from what I've read on this forum and elsewhere, about what exactly does a person do after he/she's gotten an MBBS to work and practice in America.

Thanks!:hail:

I'm 27 years old now, born and living in Brazil. I have completed regular studies almost 10 years ago and about 1 year ago I started to have interest on finally making to the college rooms.

I have been reading a lot about radiology , and I want to face the Medicine beast. Now, I come to you guys for advice.

What would be mostly interesting to me right now?

1. Try to apply to an american (if possible, Florida) medicine school ?

2. Study medicine in Brazil (6 years) and then try to find a residency in the US after that ?

Always having mind the "time factor", since I'm already 27.

Thank you guys for all the help,

Here's me: I have an honours degree in Geophysics along with a minor in Geology from a Canadian university with a GPA of 3.6. While this was one of the top five GPAs in my class it isn't really very competitive with Canadian med schools. I don't have Organic Chemistry or any of the 2nd year Bio courses that most people with a BSc have when applying to med school which limits where I can apply. I wrote my MCAT and got a 28p, I know that's not great and is probably mostly due to my lack of OChem (got a 9 on that part) but I REALLY don't want to re write.

Oh and I have European citizenship. Two doctor's in the family in the States. I speak French and English fluently.

So I was thinking of applying overseas.

Here's what I seem to understand from everything that I've read. Please correct me if I'm wrong or fill in any info that you think might be important that I'm missing.

Australia:

-My marks are good enough to get in
-I most likely won't get an internship as an international student.
-Will it be possible for me to get residency in US or Canada??? or will I be stuck with an expensive peice of paper and no job???
-Please can someone give me a simple explanation of the moratorium???

Caribbean:

-So the Big 4 sounds like good options but are they really??
-Are AUC and St George significantly better than Ross or Saba??
-Are there any expected changes in the future that will allow fewer residents to go back to the US or Canada??
-What are the major cons to going to these schools??
-Will my fiancee be bored out of his mind on a little island??

Europe:

-Is this something that I should consider??
-I'm assuming that I can only go to France, UK, Switzerland or Ireland
-Would I apply as a European or International student? What would give me better odds of getting in?
-Would I be able to get a residency?
-How long am I looking at? I was reading in another post that it was 15 years from start to finish in UK.
-Is it possible to get a residency in North America if I attend a European school?

I probably have a zillion more questions but those are the majors right now. I'm scared of limiting myself to a specific country. I would eventually love to work all over the world but I want to have the option of coming home to North America.

Sorry this is so long but if you can even answer a couple of my questions or post links to some legit statistics that would help a lot.

Productive advice is really appreciated
