i am studying in canada. I want to get an EMT (Emergency Medical tech/Service) license. How can I get this license, what kind of courses do I need to take.

Well, fir have to start by getting an EMT-B. This is the basic EMT license that you will start to work with. Once you complete that, you can become and EMT-P (paramedic), but thats another story.

Dor you EMT-B, you need to take a 1 semester course at any community college or university. Then, upon completion, you take "the national registry" examination. Once you pass this, you are certified to work in the USA as an EMT-B.

There is more paperwork to get licensed in your county, but to my understanding there is no additional test requirements, just registering.

I live in San Diego, California and am going to be a senior in high school for 2008-2009. I really want to get my EMT license but am having an extremely hard time finding a local community college that will provide me with the opportunity to do so. Any ideas?

Many undergrad colleges offer BLS course for one semester for 6 credits. ALS course, if done with a degree, is an associate degree equivalent.
IF you don't want to do that through school, sometimes hospitals might offer the class also a good resource DOH website for your state. Depends on the city you are in, you might also want to simply approach EMT or a Medic and ask them where he or she took the course. Please don't ever refer to anyone of them (us) as ambulance drivers; my 12 y/o cousin can drive an ambulance (I know that b/c I let him drive me truck one day) but person working in the field is WAY MORE then just a driver.

A little side note though, based on the state that you want to practice or will be living will also depend on the amount ot tests you have to take... Some states will give you reciprocity for your licensure from another state, others will honor your National Registry. If you will be in the state where you national registry is meaningless, don't even spend money or time on that exam.
