ok this a very basic question, but whats the difference between Charles Univ First faculty , Second Faculty and Third Faculty?

I guess does it make a difference for students applying from America?

Also, neil...whats ur background ? How come u do all the bidding for first faculty? Are u in the US or are u in Czech Republic? where do u do ur rotations?

hey there...the best way to explain the difference is to compare it to the UC system in california. UC Berkley and UCLA are two different schools, different applications and different strengths and weaknesses. but, they are both part of the same University system. so, the same can be said when comparing first, second and third faculties. they are different, but all under the Univerzita Karlova umbrella.

i think i do most of the talking about first fac because there aren't too many here that are interested in chatting. it is a pretty small school, especially as pertains to americans, and most here just want to get through and go home. i am in CR now, and i spend most of the school year here. i have a few rotations scheduled in the states this summer.

I find it a bit upsetting that some members of this forum are rating the women of a certain country as opposed discussing what really matters..ie trying to make a difference through application of medicine. I dont want to be a party pooper, I love women too...but lets not rate women of countries in this forum..we can talk about cultural differences and stuff like that..but if you wanna rate women, i suggest you should go to a porn site..

but, things should also not be taken so seriously. if somebody wants to ask any question within the TOS, i am happy to provide information. and i little light hearted fun is not hurting anybody.

Neilc, you know alot about med school in Prague, so I hope you can answer some questions.

Are there Norwegians attending Charles 1st medical faculty, or do they all attend the 3rd?

I understand from previous posts that the three faculties are all decent, but would you for any reason recommend one before the other, keeping in mind that I'm Norwegian.

I get the impressions from reading these posts that Norwegian med-students in EE are antisocial pri**s that only hang around fellow Norwegians. Do you find this to be true?

Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences in Prague with us who are curious, your posts have have been helpful.

i don't know why, but the third faculty is like a little norway! there are norwegians in the other faculties, but not nearly as many. i can think of one or two in first faculty off the top of my head...

as for being anti-social, i don't think it is true at all. they are awesome students, generally (though some exceptions jump to mind :P ) and i have several of them as freinds and drinking buddies. i think you will find that the students in all 3 faculties are generally divided into the serious, dilligent students (about 20%) and then all the rest. the other, less than excellent students do tend to get uppity at those that do well, and since the norwegians do well, this may be the source of the rumors you heard. they do tend to hang out as a group, but no more than the students from UK, or Sweden or wherever else.

but, generally, if i was from norway, i would go to 3rd faculty. you will have lots more in common with more of your classmates, and better information and contacts for when you finish.
