Finding Clinical rotations outside of your school

I am attending AUC, I am only second semester so I have some time to worry about this. AUC only has 2 locations where I can complete all my clinicals, one is NY (which I do not want to live in), and the other has a 1 year wait. My difficulty comes from my wife and three kids whom I do not want to be moving every three months as I start a new clinical rotation.
Does anyone know how to set up clinical rotations at a location other than those set up by your school?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you

I would assume call the hospital/program, get the OK there and then talk to your clinical coordinator.

Uh, what about Kern (CA) and Providence (MI) or any of the European or Ireland sites? If one of those sites has a one year wait list currently it doesn't mean it's going to be popular once you're starting clinicals. Besides, I remember all of the crazy clinical rumors that flew around AUC while my husband and I lived there and a lot of it wasn't true.

While at AUC I heard about one guy who set up his own cores, in Louisiana, but it's very difficult to do. Most families I know of ended up in spots where they could stay put the entire time if they wanted to, including fourth year as well. Others opted for sites closer to home that had most cores, i.e.-OH, and the spouse just left for a few weeks to finish rotations that couldn't be done at that site.

I too am wanting to set up a rotation closer to home and away from a city (I have children as well). And so far I am just trying to find a hospital/ dr who is credited to have clinical rotations. If they are certified to do so, then you have to have your school approve it as well.

Where to I get accreditation information

Is there a resource that I can use to find accredited locations at which to request clinical rotations. Or do I just have to ask every hospital that I might want to go to if they have such a program?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Gecko

during 5th semester clinical orientation you get a packet with a list of clinical sitesd and contact info. it is a list of where our students have done more than 2 months of rotations at. some sites are out of date because no one has gone there in a while but most of it was surprisingly accurate

i remember 2nd semester the rumor was that all sites were full, i was gona have to wait and move every month and so on...its all **..do your part take and pass the usmle as soon as possible because the sites are first come first serve so pass it then you are given a list of start dates and locations. kern and providence have few start dates so they fill up, baltimore, conneticut and ohio have most cores and NY has all of them and so does ireland and england. it is tough to think. about clinicals with a family but i really haven't met anyone that has had problems getting their first or second choice sites and no one has had to wait more than a few weeks to start other than by choice. i got my step scores first week of january, given choice to start ireland january 11th, NY, baltimore in jabuary, conneticut in february or ohio in march, but i wanted to wait 4 a specific site so i waited til june for it but did 2 months of electives during that time. if you read back there aren't many if any posts in the clinical forum complaining about placement or being forced to wait to start
clinicals

its tough but focus on getting off the rock in 5 semesters ther rest falls into place quite nicely..the school even sends your diploma and tarnscripots to ecfmg without having to ask them...
