Chiropractor sought in date-rape case called victim, police say
ANTIOCH -- A 37-year-old chiropractor accused of drugging two women and sexually assaulting one of them called one of the victims Wednesday in an attempt to intimidate her, Antioch police said today.
Police have not been able to find Jason Phillip Goettsch to arrest him, and investigators fear he may have fled the state or is preparing to do so, police Sgt. Diane Aguinaga said.
Aguinaga said Goettsch called the woman around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday where she works and asked for the second victim's contact information, which she refused to provide.
"She called us afterward and was very upset," said Aguinaga, who said it was "logical" to assume that Goettsch was trying to intimidate the woman. "She asked specifically where he was, and he said he was in hiding," Aguinaga said.
Goettsch works at Advanced Chiropractic on Sunset Lane in Antioch. After he called the woman Wednesday, police persuaded a judge to nearly double the bail on his warrant, to $420,000 from $225,000, and secured a second, no-bail warrant for his arrest for violating his parole from an unrelated 2007 drunken-driving conviction.
Goettsch was arrested Feb. 22 after police officers saw him and another man dragging a woman into a car from the Hold Cardroom and Bar. Police called an ambulance for the woman, whom they believed was suffering from alcohol poisoning, and arrested Goettsch on a previous warrant for driving under the influence.
Police said that when they booked Goettsch, officers discovered a bottle of GHB, commonly known as the "date rape drug." GHB was originally used by body builders for its supposed anabolic effects, but is often used in sexual assaults because in high doses it can render a victim unconscious and cause memory loss.
Police released Goettsch after he served an unspecified amount of time for the DUI case. After further investigation, however, authorities determined that the woman he had been dragging outside the bar had been drugged with GHB.
Investigators say he drugged that woman and her friend, took them back to his business for massages and sexually assaulted one of them.
He took photos of the sexual assault on his camera phone, police said, and went back to the Hold Cardroom and Bar to show the pictures to patrons there.
Police are seeking Goettsch on suspicion of drugging a victim with intent to rape, oral copulation of a drugged victim, digital penetration of a drugged victim and possession of a controlled substance.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts should call police at (925) 778-2441.
