I get lots of emails from people asking about how to make a career change. Some complain that they can't afford to leave their jobs to study. I noticed that nursing is offering DCs a way to get into a new field via some programs like

Perhaps one could do that as an interim step before going on to med school I would guess.

I ended up biting the bullet and starting from scratch in an MD program.

Loved being a doctor but hated sales. Just hit that magical point where handing out one more business card or doing another sales script was about to make me puke. Made decent money and all but really started to feel a bit whorish. Simple back pain and the hassles of w-comp/no-fault got old after a few years.

I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to have helped the patients but in the same vein would have gone to medical school from the beginning if better informed.

Please... no one start on the whole 'are chiropractors real doctors?' thing, LOL! Unless I'm annoying a friend the answer is always yes. The main difference is.... an MD has to draw from a far greater pool of knowledge than a chiropractor to make a proper medical decision.

Can you comment on the "hating sales"? part?

I think he means as a chiropractor you have to whore yourself all kind of way to get patients (suckers). For example; Spinal screening at swapp-meet, Walmart, Indoors market, and chasing ambulance around the block . I have never seen a normal spinal screening, everyone that i saw going to the screening booth come out with long term damage of subluxation and a 2 years adjustment plan. I wonder why is that! What kind of illness where it affects 100% of population yet has no signs or symptoms (well maybe lighter wallet for the pt syndrome). I rather go to PM&R than a chiropractor any day of the week. At least i know i get real doctor opinion then. Good luck to all DCs in the 21st century of medicine.
