Any Chiropractors going back to med school with a family, how do you do it? Most of us are no longer 20. I am 33, married with children. How do you go back to med school, or go to med school in the Caribbean with a family? Did you move your family to the Caribbean? What are the hours like? What about family time? Is there any? My oldest is 10. He'll be 18 when I am done with med school and residency. What kind of hours will I work during those? Any help, thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. Thanks

Please can you explain why as DC you transitioned out of chiro? As I am curious about my options to alternative careers. Please message me if needed.

I haven't left chiropractic yet. I have a hard time most days. I feel like what I am doing is so insignificant, and the pay keeps getting worse every month. I am not that excited about going back to school. And my wife is really against leaving the country to go to school. So, to answer you question, no I haven't taken any leaps yet, and I am miserable most of the time. Chiropractic is doomed. It is very difficult to be ethical and make money. Very difficult. So many aren't ethical. Or they leave. There is more than a 50% attrition rate in Chiropractic. It is definitely not worth the money or time lost.

Make the leap and you will be happy in long run my man. Trust me! Once you are done u will be able to help real pts with real diseases and make a honest living. U can hold your head high and look yourself in the mirror. Good luck

unlike billy c, i really do feel your pain. chiro is doomed for growth, and perhaps even survival. revenue growth for physicians will slow and possibly even stagnant due to downward pressure from insurance (private and govt). but the question of survival i dont believe is an issue with mds.

microsoft wants yahoo real bad at 44.5B but not bad enough to go to 49.5B b/c the investment is too high for the return. is med school too much of an investment for the future return? only you can decide. a lot of people in med school (at least in the u.s.) are 22-24 yr olds. typically they have less to lose by investing their youth and money in education, but being older there are other issues to consider.

I think it matters where a person is in practice, MD, DO, DC, PT, each state is diff. I have friends in Michigan that are struggling and friends in Nebraska that are thriving. Each state has its own laws and such. I don't believe Chiro's are doomed, they just need to step up to the plate and weed out the quacks.

I'm curious as to what school the chiro's went to before moving on the a med school in the caribean? What do you think made you fail in practice?

I didn't fail in practice as a chiropractor in fact I used the money I made in practice and with the sale of my practice to finance MD school and buy a house in the Caribbean. I went back to med school because I couldn't see myself doing spinal screenings at 40 yrs old and I didn't like seeing patient three times a week so I went into a specialty where I see someone for acute care and pass them back to their primary care doc.
One fact: most people don't understand before starting school how much of a salesman you are as a DC (only a small % of the population is under DC care). You have to convince most people why they need chiropractic. Many patients only come until their insurance runs out then will wait until next year. The other thing is how unethical Chiro has become to make money examples being PI and using tricks like Spinal Analyzer that checks posture and weight equality.
anyway if you want more reasons please just ask many will give you them.
I am not saying Chiropractic care is not needed as everything has a place but I wanted more and medicine gave it to me.
