Stay in Isla Verde if you're going to San Juan. It's the touristy, upper class neighborhood. There a ton over hotels there (independant and franchised) and great clubs, casinos, and restaurants in the bigger hotels. I stayed at Holiday Inn Isla Verde twice and it was really good. No casino or club inside, but next door is a casino and clubs down the street. While you're in San Juan you have to check out Old San Juan district. It's a really beautiful place with cobblestone streets, churches, museums, fountains, GREAT restaurants, and beautiful views of the ocean. The place blows up on friday and saturday nights. The girl:guy ratio is insane (5:1) and lots of bars are cover-free. Everything is Old San Juan is walking distance, but you have to take a taxi from Isla verde.

Just been in the St Lucia of Barbados for the final match of the world cup - and the experience was staggering. I mean, if you love nature theres no ther place you can find any better specimen. The people were friendly and everything was perfect. Loved the experience.

I've actually been to the Dominican Republic a few times. I love it. It's not quite as expensive as the other islands. It offers very friendly people and gorgeous views too.

Hi!
I like St Maarten (Dutch), but I think St Martin (French) is really nice to stay on, especially at Orient Beach. They have a lot of fun water sports and the beach is amazing. Stay at this place called La plantation - it's affordable and comparable to Maho prices - but it's nicer than Maho.
