Caribbean Medical University to add problem-based learning to curriculum

Starting in January of 2012, CMU will be adding Problem-based Learning (PBL) to the curriculum. Ninety percent of American medical schools offer PBL in some form to their curriculum. It helps students assimilate basic science facts better and apply them to patient situations. PBL also helps prepare students for USMLE. Rather than simply recalling isolated facts, students practice how these facts influence patient care.

This is awesome news! It's something you just don't normally see in the Caribe schools. I have family and friends in the states that have PBL in their curriculum. They are always telling me about it so I know it is a fabulous program! THANKS!! Great news!!! I will be looking forward to it this semester!

I never said CMU was first. I don't know who else uses it in the Caribbean. I'm not sure if another school implemented it prior to CMU. I merely mentioned that CMU added it and continues to feature it in the curriculum.

i get that you are excited and proud of your school...but be realistic about the abilities of each school in the caribbean...cmu has not started off of the right foot and if things are changing, good for cmu, but it is not the end all be all school in the caribbean...maybe someday, but only time will tell.

Huh. I always thought that PBL stood for "peanut butter and lettuce," and it just never appealed to me much.

    My bad.
