Pardon me, I don't mean to be rude but I haven't gone thru every single thread about CMU at this forum as I just found it today, not to mention that I am in a very difficult situation currently. I'm already enrolled in a med school overseas but things aren't exactly working out for me. Started to browse and found the college's website and then found this site.

I appreciate the fact that someone mentioned that it is not listed on ECFMG or the WHO, however, from what I've read, CMU just opened this year, so don't they usually say that new schools often take a few years to get on the list?

Thanks for the reply state, but no I haven't read every post about CMU here ( I have a life besides being on the net!) and nor did I know that the admin of the college got banned here.

Objective opinion

Personally, I do not hate this school or RL guy. However, I just do not want to risk my money (6 figure debt) and 5 years of my life on a school that lacks of any license approval from any of the 50 states. Currently, the safest bets in the Caribbeans are sgu, ross, auc and sabba. In addition, there is also uag in mexico. If u even go further outside of America, then there are a ton of schools in foreign countries that are very well established and they are welcome by numerous states in USA. In comparison to those older schools, younger schools would run into more legislative resistance and the graduates will have to work much harder to get license after the graduation. Thus, it completely depends on where u want to be after your graduation because a diploma is not a license to practice medicine. It is possible for anyone to receive a diploma, but getting a license works on completely different rules. The best way for u to get the most accurate information is to go on to the
California Medical School Board website and check out its accepted-schools list and it will help u to determine what schools u should choose. The reason I recommend California because it is considered a state with the strictest standards and its accepted schools are usually accepted into other states with the least amount of resistance. For example, the big four are on the list and they have graduates who are currently employed all over the USA.

You haven't contributed anything to this thread that has benefited my decision and unlike others who actually gave valid responses, that made sense, all you seem to be doing is just pass comments without any foundation to support them. In fact, I don't know why I am even dignifying your comments by responding to them. Since when has it become a sin to post a question? If you don't have an answer for it, then its simple...don't bother responding to it. As I said before, when you'll pay for my tuition you can tell me what not to post, till then I will ask whatever questions I deem necessary to make my decision.

btw, thanks to all of those who ACTUALLY took the time to answer my questions in detail with facts. I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the input east, you're right about California and about the risks involved. I wish the system in the US was a lot better so that we wouldn't have to struggle so much just to get a decent education outside of the US.

since this is an extremely important decision in your life, I would suggest reading up on any potential school as much as possible. since you are interested in CMU, i think you should take the time to read through the threads. it shouldnt take you more then an hour to do (an hour wont take away from you life too much ). in the threads, you will see posts by the students, admin, and outsiders. i think it will paint a pretty good picture.

i honestly think you will make the decision to not attend this school even after only reading a few of the long threads (maybe 15 minutes worth of reading).

if in the end you decide to attend, please do not come back to VMD talking about how you were an innocent student who got sucked into a mess. i would have no sympathy. its out in the open here.

good luck in your quest for a new school. i dont know your situation, but it cant be one that limits you to ONLY cmu. look around at all the schools with licensed grads already.

take care.

It's not the system. There's only X number of space in the US for students with X+1000000000000 applicants. The responsibility is yours to research and gain acceptance in a school of credible caliber outside the US.

Either people are extremely positive about it or extremely negative. Is there some honest person out there who can give me a balanced outlook on the college. No college is perfect and no college is absolute poop either.

I would appreciate a balanced opinion from current students because I know that colleges always hail themselves as the best. So, tell me what are some good things about the college and some not so good things.

Thanks!

Take a look at http://www.valuemd.com/caribbean-med...tml#post652988

Notice that the Curacao government invited CMU to apply to open a medical school on August 10th, 2007.

Bottom line: CMU is not a real medical school till they get a charter from the Curacao and the Netherland Antilles government.

If CMU say they have the charter, wait for it to be listed on the IMED website. See http://www.valuemd.com/caribbean-med...tml#post649631

Then, if you still want to go to this school, take everything they say with a healthy cynicism. They currently have a track record of misrepresenting their current situation.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the luck, but having experienced scams in the past I don't want my parents nor myself to become victims at the hands of thugs. I guess thats why I want to make sure to such a great extent, because we all know that med school tuition is no joke, nor are the years you sacrifice to become a physician.

Note to user dt: thanks for the links, appreciate it
