Open House Report

It was a great pleasure to host the grand open house seminar at Caribbean Medical University on 12th May Saturday on main campus on Curacao.
Airport pick up facility arranged by the Administration of Caribbean Medical University was very effective and helpful for the students and their relatives. Overwhelming participation of the students from the morning till evening was remarkable.

All the students were very curious to see the U.S. standard classrooms, computer lab, student lounge, 200 seat seminar room, 400 seated auditorium with computerized audio-visual systems, huge exhibition hall, excellent facilities in dormitory and on-campus hotel.

Executive Dean and Vice-Dean of faculties addressed the students and explained the teaching and training program that will primarily focus on preparation for USMLE steps effectively from the day 1.

They mentioned that they will follow a system based teaching curriculum as recommended by Association of American Medical Colleges. This system-based curriculum is an essential criterion for accreditation by ACCM and useful for preparing students for USMLE steps.

Executive Dean emphasized that his major objective is to ensure high passing rate of CMU students in USMLE steps.

Vice-Dean described the system-based methods followed in Cleveland Clinic University in USA.*
Representatives from Antillean Advents Hospital, Curacao ensured long term cooperation with CMU for clinical exposure of CMU students in the hospital environment.

The open house ended after a long interactive session with potential students and administration of CMU.

CMU administration ensured “weekend get together” for upcoming students on every Saturday till the end of May’07. All students and relatives from different places are welcome to visit CMU campus at their earliest convenience.

Open house

Howdy All, I do not know about pick up from the airport, but I've heard that majority of the student were from competing school and a lot of them transfered. Looks like a cheap way to start new school... I know all these phrases that strongest and smartest survives but still place is too small to make enemies right away... Cheers

We didn’t even advertise Open House on the island and students came to see the difference. They have right to choose their school so don’t make them slaves of one institution. We just showed them the option and some of them made the decision to transfer.
St. Martinus after 5 years of operations has only 30 students and CMU starts with about 30 so don’t you thing that there is a reason for those students to transfer? We have also transfers from St. James, Xavier, even 2 students from SGU and 12 freshmen, so please explain the definition of the "cheap way". Do you expect us to refuse them based on the fact that there were not happy with their previous school?
CMU doesn’t make any enemies. If you represent St. Martinus please focus on your school and improve it so the students won’t have a reason to transfer.

Good Luck

Hi all,.... You do not have to advertise on Curacao, everybody knows everything, sometimes even before it happened... What I meant "cheap way" is that CMU did not spend single cent to recruit these students.... It was a lot of "star dust" during open house and of course students took the bait.... Can you 100% guarantee to students that CMU is better that SMU?....There is no faculties, labs etc, just rooms at WTC....WTC is in general nice place but SMU is not that bad too... The point is that there is so called professional courtesy... moreover you do not poo... where you live... And last one, students will ALWAYS, I mean ALWAYS will transfer regardless how good is your school.... Cheers,...THD

Well, you're new -- just signed up yesterday. Aside from all those test posts you put everywhere, the only posts you have made seems to be against CMU. To me, that seems that you're unhappy. I assume you're with SMU 'cause you mentioned it in your own post, and you mentioned 'professional courtesy'.

If you know things about the other schools, then I wonder how you got the info...

If you are with SMU, you had so many years to improve it...

Yeah, this I lean towards agreeing.

So, best to wait and see how it turns out.

If you want me to be from smu, fine by me but i agree with you that smu had many years to became strong school and this attempt failed. i am not unhappy that cmu opened the doors, i am unhappy that they lie... well as the majority of medical schools in this region. students are gonna invest quoter million dollars to get MD degree and i think you have to be 100% honest with them. regarding professional courtesy, cmu stabbed smu in the back, knowing that they have problems recruiting students. it looked like mercy bullet in the head...Hey, you can and you have to solicit students but cmu could have done it in a more subtle way...... pleasure to present my opinion.... chers.....THD
