Study Material and Tactics for the MCCEE
Hi,
I'm looking for information as to the best tactics for writing the MCCEE (Sept 2004). I know the material covered resembles that for USMLE Step2. Does anyone know how similar these two tests are. I've also heard that the MCCEE is more similar to USMLE Step1. I guess I'm a bit confused about all of this and would appreciate any input. |

MCCEE vs USMLE
I would say that the MCCEE is more similar to Step2 than it is to Step1. The style of questions is different also. On the EE, there are no real "clinical vignettes" that the USMLE loves. The majority are just straightforward questions that u either know or u don't. At least that's how I felt when I took it. There's also a "glossy" section where they have pics of EKG's, dermatology, radiographs, etc. On that section, u have to write in a Dx.

Thanks Stepchow!!
Hey S. Chow - thanks for the input. It's kind of tough preparing for the Canadian side of things (no real direction). I plan to read the required texts for IM, OBGYN, Peds, Psych, and Surgery - but do you think the MCCQE Notes (Toronto Notes) cover the aspects of the test and will suffice for a review? Once again, all input is appreciated!

MCCEE
Now that I think back, I think that Toronto Notes is a little overkill for the MCCEE. I mean, it's a good book, but it just has too much stuff in there that aren't as relevant. However, when I was studying, I did go thru the entire book once, and certain high yield sections at least twice.

high yield
Well, like the USMLE's u should have a good handle on IM for sure. I found that there were quite bit of ob/gyn questions too. I'd study all the cores, and select some of the other topics like cardio, infectious dz and stuff. I'd skip over ortho, ENT, anesthesia, etc. Make sure u read the ethics chapter though since some of it is specific to Canada only.

breakdown
I honestly can't remember how it was broken down per subject. I don't think it was a completely even breakdown though. I don't remember much surgery questions. But regardless, I'd study the cores.
