Sometimes I wish I were an Inuit/American-Indian.

No taxes in Canada and med school if you can spell your name correctly!!

Of course I am being silly but the truth is that med schools crave Inuit applicants in Canada.

Really? no taxes? I just thought they got cheaper booze, cheaper cigarettes, FREE uni education including FREE uni books, and if one does not make it that far (unable to spell name), higher welfare/unemployment/disablility payments.

Where can I get my Inuit card?????

Pretty much a free ride including no taxes whatsoever.

Lol when I read all what people can say about Canada, I realize that probably a large part of what those people say about carribean schools is also false.

I'm an aboriginal (metis) and the story about non paying taxes is false. The aboriginals (Indians and Inuit) don't have to pay taxes ONLY if they live on a reserve. And this law apply because when you are Indian, you are legally considered as a child (in Canada, I don't know for US). It means, for eg, you cannot be legally the real owner of any properties etc.

A lot of reserves have no high schools. The life conditions is very poor, sometimes worst than some third-world countries. The aboriginal program (for med schools) is fair, because it gives a chance to some aboriginals to become physician. And considering all the obstacles an aboriginal has to deal with before he can see an university with his own eyes, we can obviously say those aboriginal have something special. Overall, the process selection for aboriginal is the same. They are advantaged by only 2 factors: some universities will consider a lowest GPA (eg 3.2); the number of aboriginal applicants is ridiculously low...in other words, the competition for a number x of seats is not very high (maybe 2:1 or 3:1).

Also, it's not all non aboriginal physicians who could be able to practice medicine on a reserve nowhere in the forest. The aboriginals are easily able to deal with it. So, if there is no aboriginal physician available for practicing on reserve, what do we do with the Indians living on reserves?...we let them die??
