Thread: MCCQE1 Material...need help!

Hi everyone, I'm going to write the MCCQE1 in May 2011. I'm confused about the best source/book to study preparing for the test. TN is the only book i can think of, But is it enough?
Is there any particular chapters that i should concentrate on?
Any advice especially from previous experience will be appreciated.

TN is more than enough....focus on Family Medicine, Ob/Gyn, Peds...those are heavy hitters, primary care stuff.

Find a Q-bank that you like as well and work through it...I took it before Christmas, if you speak English as your first language, the test is a friggin' joke, just a source of money for them. I even found spelling mistakes and grammatical errors throughout.

well english is not my first language.
Can you please tell me about the exam duration, the exam sections. I really don't have any idea about how it will go. and i hate when i'm getting into something without knowing anything about it. I'll be grateful.

all the information about the exam duration and it's sections can be found on the MCC website...you should familiarize yourself with their website completely. I've included a link to the QE1 page specifically.

if French is your first language it sould be easy as well....forgot that you can take it in French if you wish. If you are not fluent in either English or French, then the exam will be more difficult, just like the USMLE exams and the like. Since the exam has poorly worded questions and atrocious grammar, it is more diffucult for people who do not have English/French as their first language because you have to spend time sifting through what they are asking instead of just answering questions. It's bad enough to have to sit through that crap when English is your first language. With all the money the MCC charges for these exams, it would be appreciated it if they proofread them...

And Canada requires IMGs to write the TOEFL or provide extensive proof that they have trained at an English-medium school?! Hypocritical, but not surprising.

What Qbanks do you recommend? UWorld?

I used UWorld because I was studying for Step 3 at the same time....I also did a few questions from the Canada Q bank just because it was a cheap subscription...not sure if it's needed though, kind of gives you a heads up on what the QE1 looks like, I got it since it's so cheap. That's all you need though....

So you used Step 3 Qbank for QE I? I thought QE I is more similar to Step 2?

I found it to be more similar to Step 3...with the short answer sections and what not. Use whatever you find to be best to study for it though, I'm just telling you what worked for me...

Are you saying MCCQE is ridiculously easy or MCCEE? I heard the EE is a joke from other foreign students but the QE1 is actually tough, at least according to both Canadian med students and foreign students I've talked to.
