MCCEE is required for Canadian residency

Sticky this.

I did medical school in Ireland, Australia, Caribbean, etc. etc. I'm a Canadian (or not) and I'm interested in residency in Canada. Do I need the MCCEE?

Yes! If you graduated from a medical school outside of Canada or the US, you need to have passed the MCCEE before you participate in the CaRMS match.

From the CaRMS website:

"Applicants applying to the match who are not from LCME/CACMS accredited schools must be attending or have graduated from a school listed with the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), published by the Foundation for the Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and
  1. must have written and passed the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE)
Important Note for the 2008 Match: in order to qualify for the 1st iteration of the 2008 match, applicants will need to have written the MCCEE in 2007. Applicants scheduled for the January MCCEE will be able to register for the 2nd iteration of the match."

I graduated from medical school in the US, Ireland, Australia, the Caribbean, etc. etc. I'm a Canadian (or not), and I'm interested in residency in Canada. Do I have to write the MCCQE Parts I and II?

Yes! Everyone in a Canadian residency program must write (and pass) the MCCQE Part I and Part II.

From the Medical Council of Canada website:

"To that end, the MCC administers the Qualifying Examination Part I (QE Part I) and the Qualifying Examination Part II (QE Part II). As of May 1992, a Pass standing is required on both the QE Part I and the QE Part II in order be awarded the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada and be registered in the Canadian Medical Register."

But I have USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3!

Doesn't matter.

I'm a fully-trained specialist (from the US, China, Spain, Africa, etc. etc.) seeking employment in Canada. What do I need to do?

Big complicated question! There is a whole webpage at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons devoted to this issue. You must start there.

Can't post the link just take out the spaces
