The Central America Health Sciences University (CAHSU), Belize Medical College was founded in 1996. The University is located in Belize City, Belize. Previously known as British Honduras, Belize lies on the east coast of Central America in the heart of the Caribbean Basin. The country borders Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and is flanked by the Caribbean Sea to the east.

CAHSU is a medical school with a curriculum patterned after US medical programs. The University ensures its students receive a well-rounded education, allowing them to develop into skilled and responsible physicians well equipped to enter into the competitive job market upon graduation.

The Central America Health Sciences University, Belize Medical College Basic Science and Clinical Medicine curriculum provides a high quality medical education which encourages students to take active responsibility for their learning process and to prepare them for life-long, self-directed learning. The Basic Science program is five terms in length and may be completed in twenty months. The Clinical Medicine program is composed of 80 weeks of clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Belize and Mexico.

The University has a continuous program with three entering classes per year; January, May and September. The Central America Health Sciences University has rolling admissions and applications are processed as they arrive. You will be notified if you are accepted within a few weeks after you apply. Students are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible; before the beginning of each term.

An appointed admissions committee reviews all applications. Applicants are not evaluated solely on academic merit. The standards for acceptance are defined by: undergraduate studies, academic records, demonstration of a high commitment to the medical field, as well as the originality and motivation of the student.

CAHSU Medical Curriculum

The Basic Medical Science curriculum:

CAHSU Medical Student
  • Offers an in-depth program of the basic medical sciences.
  • Presents the range of problems encountered by doctors and the range of solutions that have been developed for their recognition, investigation, prevention and treatment.
  • Covers the principles of disease, therapy, ethical and legal issues relevant to the practice of medicine.

The Clinical Medical Sciences curriculum:

  • Presents the opportunity to record a history, perform a physical examination and interpret the findings.
  • Teaches the students to act independently correlating the clinical relevance to the basic sciences.
  • Gives access to areas of medical practice students may be interested in while pursuing their career.

On successful completion of the whole medical school curriculum and satisfactorily meeting all the other requirements, medical students will be conferred with a MD degree.
