hi

in a manic patient...are the seretonin levels elevated?
I know that low seretonin level is for violent suicide, so i was thinking maybe
they are low?

It's not just violent suicide; low serotonin is going to be found more in depressive patients in general and why the SSRI and tricyclic anti-depressants are so effective with depressive patients; Also there will be decreased norepinephrine..(tricyclic anti-depressants also work on the re-uptake of norepinephrine); Manic patients.. have not found to have elevated or low serotonin... but will have to read more to know for sure.. thank you for the question.

this board should not be used for medical advice or information. its a study forum for med students and NO information should be used by patients as valid medical information, recommendation or advice.

I'm confused by stephew's comment... thought that a question was being asked, and student-2 and myself were answering it; maybe I added more in relation to the drugs...unless the information is wrong then please correct me.. thank you..
