question #5--last one for the afternoon..

Here are four cases of ego defenses... can you name them? (Hint: they are the mature defenses).

Mnemonic: Mature women wear a SASH.

1. Nervous medical student jokes about the boards.
2. Choosing not to think about the USMLE until the week of the exam.
3. Husband is watching "ANTM" (America's Next Top Model), imagining being with Tyra Banks; The next day, he sends flowers and candy to his wife.
4. A lawyer is aggressive in achieving his "dream" in becoming a judge.

1. Humor
2. Suppression
3. Altruism
4. Sublimation

Please post any follow-up questions with answers, and/or comments.. thank you.

Im going to disagree with numebr 3, lets see
" A husband is watching "ANTM" (America's Next Top Model), imagining being with Tyra Banks; The next day, he sends flowers and candy to his wife" is not altruism is Undoing : acting out the reverse way of what we think is an unnaceptable behavior
He was atracted to the model so he tried to fix his feelings doing the reverse acceptable behavior.

In other hand Altruism is the defense in wich guilty feelings are repaired by doing acts of generosity, an example is a young kid who was kill in a car accident, his mother feel guilty feelings for buying him a car, so after his death she donates her time to a association who helps people with car crash dissabilities

please post your comments
