Can a consultant or registrar in Australia work in the United States without having to repeat his residency in Internal Med? I am planning to take my USMLEs but would rather not if I will end up having to repeat my residency. I am engaged to my girlfriend in the States, also a doctor, but we're not sure where things would be easier. Any input will be appreciated.

Unfortunately not very likely. You will probably have to redo your entire residency in the US. The only "comfort" may be knowing that it will only be 3 years.
